A shoutout to my fellow countryman Tal Macmull, you may have heard about his fantastic guitars and basses, the cult following and waiting lists. Anyway, he invited me over to check out two basses that he finished building, a P and a J. I'm a P bassist through and through, but that J was perhaps the best bass I've ever played. It has a P-width neck, and I simply couldn't put it down. It's perfect.

Nice looking reliced J. I like the big headstock. Probably helps with dead spots. In an alternate universe someone in Ireland named Seamus Goldstein is making Fender copies too.

That's an Iraqi Jewish name, pronounced mack-MULL.
He has his own designs (a new short scale bass is coming soon) but most identify him with boutique Strats and Teles, feather weight and heavy reliced, so he's making what people want and are willing to pay top dollar for. That J is about $9K.
Ouch.
Beauty though.
