A British guy on Talk Bass sent me these pics of a double cut Triumph he saw on Reverb.
Certainly looks legit to me.
The binding, the lacquer, the neck joint. All look like Gibson did it.
The bas in pretty rough condition. But certainly salvageable.
This is the first double cut I have ever seen.
Thoughts?

If that was an old fender, the beat-outta-hell finish would make it more valuable to the "relic" fans.
If it was reshaped later they used the exact same binding which is perhaps not plausible so I'd say it's legit.

It does look legit to me also. Almost looks like it's had water damage. The inside of the case looks musty or rotten.
Looks really cool. Also looks factory IMHO.
I had a Hondo bass with that sort of outline for a while. Not sure why, but on a precisely symmetrical design like that I often think the bass cutaway and horn look smaller than the treble.

That's why SGs are designed the way they are — to overcome the illusion and look symmetrical.
Ten years ago Uwe would have told us he snagged it, before we even knew it was for sale.

Just noticed that it is in New York. If it wasn't in such rough shape, I might have considered buying it & having it refinished. Not much you can do if it is water damaged. It was loved!!
Idk, with Gibson anything is possible. Any good luthier could pull that off. The weathering is really uniform so if work was done it was done a long time ago. I'm willing to be the 5th dentist on this one. I don't believe it to be original.
On closer inspection the binding job is sloppy on the upper cutaway, certainly not Gibsons level of workmanship, definitely modded imho.

Indeed I would have, I believe it's legit too or at least employee-built. But I have given up collecting and haven't played bass at all during the last three years or so. My last band experience was so frustrating, I thought sod it. I'm currently attempting to befriend the idea of playing again. I've already got an ad in my brain ...
65-year-old, overplaying bass player seeks band that plays to a professional standard without any professional ambitions. Absolutely no tributes or "overwhelmingly covers" bands. No "only I write the songs"-figures either. Drummer must have Ian Paice'sque bass drum technique - and a keyboard player that can solo fluently is also a must. I'm fine with two to three rehearsals per week.
I'm sure I'll be swamped with serious offers, you just wait! :mrgreen:

Yeah, good luck with that. The general rule I've found is younger people generally want to play originals, but we're too old for them; they have a mentality that they'll hit it big I guess. Older people generally just want to play covers. So if you're older and want to play originals, it's really hard to find. I was fortunate to find that needle in a haystack. It's out there.
