Personally I've never liked the early pickguard. It's like an artist has designed the bass and his 4-years-old kid drew the guard. But others like it, apparently.

I like it (I'd like it better with the toaster in the 1/2" location), but then, I ain't got no taste according to some folks. :mrgreen:

It probably hides the bridge rout and mute well, when they wanted to fit the Schaller bridge. I'll bet that's what started the whole project.

It's an odd combination of Ric features. It's like someone put a 50s pickguard on a '68-ish bass.
It completely ruins the Napoloeonesque beauty of the Ric ...
