"This is a complete vindication": Dean Guitars maker has won the right to a retrial in Gibson trademark dispute – but what does that really mean? (https://www.guitarworld.com/news/dean-armadillo-enterprises-vs-gibson-retrial)

Well, at least with Flying V basses Gibson were late in the game. Ibanez was like six years earlier.

Speaking of: What happened with that so grandly announced Gene Simmons Flying V Bass?

It's an original Gibson shape, yes, but Dean have adopted that Modernistic Guitars look for their own models for so long and nurtured the image with such dedication that I meanwhile identify any Flying V I see live as either a Gibson or a Dean, the headstock being the tell-tale difference. A Dean doesn't pretend to be a Gibson, it wants to be - chest-beatingly so - a Dean.

Live and let live. It's not a shape you buy just for the casual heck of it and no one who truly wants a Gibson Flying V will settle for a Dean and vice versa.

I believe that Mr. Casady was the first one with a custom made V bass...before Ibanez IIRC, and definitely before Dean, Gibson etc...hopefully no one sues him... ;D
