He lived life to the max...

He sang my wife's favorite Christmas song ('Fairytale of New York'), RIP.
Since when has encephalitis become an aging rocker's disease? Jeff Beck, Bernie Marsden, now him ... - and all in England, strange statistical clustering. There are theories that its resurgence might be a long-term consequence of COVID.
He somehow managed to exude some charm , despite the bad habits and lifestyle.
And he will be missed.
Now that is a rousing way to go:

There really should be a "like" or "love" button for this.

Amen. I really wasn't familiar with the Pogues, but this song is strangely evocative and pleasing. And the send-off is exactly what it should be for a good Irishman.
One of the pallbearers used to be a pirate with scissorhands I think:

Very moving. And to see Victoria (Shane's widow) dancing and smiling was lovely too.
That's really really good. Thanks for sharing that.

Interesting article. Reminds us that the process of creating an emotional piece of music is often much less emotional and more methodical.
Here's a more cheerful note....
When Christmas and Dadaism meet!
One of my favourite quotes about him I've heard is on his departure (sacking) from the Pogues...
"I'm surprised it took you so long..." or something similar...
And the BBC telling them that if they did not change their name from Pogue Ma Hon they would never receive any airplay... the literal translation is not that bad... kiss my hole...
I really enjoyed seeing that video.
