It's creative, I give them that. And it does have a 30" scale neck at least. Anything shorter would have been hopeless.

I would imagine that they had to reposition the bridge slightly to at least give it a chance at reasonable intonation, but I doubt you can really get it right on a six-string-bass with that type of bridge.

The whole idea of the Mod Shop is creative. They find a use for factory rejects that would otherwise have ended up in the trash.
Which is an excellent idea.
What bothers me are the insane prices they ask for these salvaged instruments. It goes to shows the arrogance of the Henry J era still hangs around.

But is it really 30"? Doesn't quite look like it. Weren't Gibson baritone Les Pauls only 28" or something?

 30 1/2 yes. It was formerly a Memphis built ES-LP bass (2015)

Oh, in that case they got real creative. Those were lovingly made basses. The bridge saddles space to maneuver remains worrisome though. But then it is most likely aimed at guitarists who do not obsess about such things as correct intonation. At least I have never met one who does. They like to mull about amps instead, easily distracted creatures they are.  :-X  :mrgreen:

And while we're at it, they can't really adjust truss rods either. It fills them with dread.

These didn't really have much of a mahogany center block. I wonder how well it would support the neck of a six string bass.
You would think a bass that expensive would come with a hard shell case.......

They did originally, they had probably run out of them by the time this one was finished.

At least Henry didn't charge extra for his mistakes.

PS: Jest aside, I don't have issues with the guy. He saved Gibson once when no one would touch it. Steered it with some success for a quarter of a century, overstayed his welcome, didn't listen, smuggled some protected wood and made daft decisions towards the end of his era. Shit happens.



The near-bankruptcy probably did not devour all of his private fortune, yet he is still trying to do something professionally at a ripe old age, possibly for his kids: His son is the Vice-President of CareMoat. I wish him the best - and thanks for all the fish basses ...
