Back in 1986 I bought a Guild F50R acoustic and have never wanted another acoustic (other than another Guild) because I love it so much. The "metal" Guilds in the early/mid 80s never did anything for me, but this model from the late 70s had been on my mind lately. I finally found one at decent price and took the plunge. All mahogany, set neck, and one single coil pickup. I'm loving this thing so far. The neck is a little bigger than the Thunderbirds and Jazz bass necks I'm used to, but it's super comfortable to play. And it sounds great. I finally have another Guild in the family!
I always liked their tone. The few I tried were neck divers though. Enjoy!
Nice , not something you see everyday .
I've always liked the looks of those. Kind of Ric inspired, right down to the pickup layout (on the 302 I mean). I believe those were made by DiMarzio BTW. I finally saw one in person at CME a few years ago and was kind of surprised at the neck thickness. Nothing like my slim old '73 JS II. Not unmanageable though. Have fun!
Nice bass. Looks good in black. I had one in walnut once. Wish I hadn't lost it in a fit of gear trading hysteria. Can't go wrong with anything produced from the late seventies, at least my wife thinks so.* ;)
*(some days more than others)
Nice score!
I really like that...nice score!
A very appealing bass and I agree it looks great in black
Congrats on this score George!
Beautiful.
I love their sound, and love the style, and in black it looks really sleek. Congrats, and dibs if you ever sell ;)
And check the intonation, the bridge saddles look like the slant is backwards.
I have a 302,natural Im restoring. I just got pickup covers for it.M
Congrats on that B-301, may it serve you well.
B-301/2 and SB-201/2/3 are probably the Guild's most usable basses overall. I used to own X-702 which was an incredibly sounding piece, but ended up selling it due to the neck profile.
OTOH, I just picked up a '76 JS-2 and am liking it a lot so far.
Yeah, Guilds pretty much come second in my book right after Gibsons... :)
