Title: 55 P bass
Post by: ilan on April 26, 2021, 09:44:41 AM
Need your advice. A friend has a 1955 P bass, all original other than the stripped body (not sure if he has the ashtrays). What is a fair price for a bass like this? Should he have the body pro refinished/lightly aged before putting it up for sale?

That might be worthy of a George Gruhn appraisal.

He certainly should document every view and piece in great detail, especially pot dates and any notations on the neck.

I completely agree!

A refin will probably be worth the expense but I'm sure you know that the value won't approach one with the original finish.

Reverb's price guide for a 1953 https://reverb.com/price-guide/guide/438-fender-precision-bass-1953-blonde but no transaction history, so I'm not sure what that's based on.
