69 years is not bad for a New York Doll, but I wish the Syrian immigrant kid would have hung around a bit longer with us. Say hi to Billy, Johnny, Jerry and Arthur from us.
And thanks for giving rock'n'roll a kick in the butt in the early 70ies. And for always being the "reliable" Doll on stage, the band needed someone like that. 8)

PS: My early love for the Dolls - pre-Punkers according to conventional wisdom nowadays - qualifies me as one of the earliest Punks here. Eat your heart out, Jake! I dug the Dolls when Herr Lydon was still camping out on Gong hippie open airs in France and England wearing borng old fart long hair. To me the Dolls were just a raucous, lovably sloppy rock'n'roll band, somewhere between hard rock and glam with a very urban streak. I thought they were friggin' gorgeous.
Saw them live some years ago, after their Morrissey-induced reunion. Lovely gig.
I wasn't even alive yet, Gramps.
Also RIP.
What a lousy, farfetched excuse, Jake! As if you couldn't help it. :green:
Egyptian, not Syrian. And Jewish by the way.
I know - that is why his parents left/had to leave.
I bought into the Dolls early, I loved them for thier sloppy rollicking style. I remember buying the first Dolls album right around the time the first Kiss album came out, maybe a little before. All of a sudden it was a long time ago. RIP Sylvain Sylvain.
That is the song that immediately pulled me on their side, an early excursion into, uhum, fusion ethno rock ...

I only realized now that Uncle Frank revived the 50ies chestnut too, perhaps he had heard it with the Dolls or one of the countless versions in the 50ies, everybody and his brother seemed to do their version of the novelty song back then.

Hey all, I'm a longtime lurker on this forum. Just wanted to add this excellent power pop track to the thread.
