This video of Specialty Records owner Art Rupe has been up for 9 years and has fewer than 4000 views, probably because few people know who he is and his role in Little Richard's success. If you're a fan, it's worth 6 minutes of your time.
Bumps Blackwell, who he sent to record Little Richard, also co-wrote some of his greatest hits, including Good Golly Miss Molly.

Thank you for posting that Dave. Nice anecdote.
And RIP Little Richard. What a huge influence on pop and rock music!
Nice video thanks Dave
That's a great clip, Dave. Good booty!

Ever since I saw this, I've wondered what the rest of the original lyrics were. ;D
That was a real nice clip. What a trailblazer he was. RIP.
I'll try to put my grief in words:
A wop bop a loo bop a lop bam boom in peace ETERNAL RACKET, little big man! :-* :-* :-*

You invented the heavy rock falsetto scream and - together with Uncle Chuck B - hard rock music as such. No Ian Gillan, David Bowie or Prince without you. Danke.

Always dug this here too ...

And how they move their molten lava treatment of the song to a faster shuffle around 4:00.
And it's not like his songs didn't work in (very) fast too!

He sure left a mark ...

I was listening to his music even as a little child because my father had his records. It's hard to believe he is now gone, though.
He gave real meaning to the term "infectious music and performance" - many decades before Corona ...
A few years after my first band broke up the drummer started playing with Little Richard's backup band. I don't know how he managed that. But he was certainly a great drummer and still is. He wasn't actually part of Little Richard's band itself, but played with the band that traveled with him everywhere.
This was uploaded to YT in 2009 and appeared in my suggestions today.
From the description: "Little Richard and cohort Bumps Blackwell talk religion, race, and music; Blackwell guides the back-up band; Richard is coiffed and receives courtiers including Bill Haley and Chubby Checker."

How many degrees of Blackmore does that make? :o
We already know there are six degrees of Kevin Bacon.
