Just saw this over at MLP.
Musical Instruments To Be Exempt From Restrictions On Heavily Trafficked Rosewood (https://www.npr.org/2019/08/27/754509680/musical-instruments-to-be-exempt-from-restrictions-on-heavily-trafficked-rosewoo)
Hasn't actually happened yet, good news if it does come to pass.
I wonder if the scarcer species will be exempted. We'll have to wait and see.
That's wonderful news!

Yes, I was afraid Charles Foster Kane's last word(s) would have to be changed to Pau Ferro. Oh wait, that was rose
bud...
Update to the NPR article: Update: The CITES convention officially adopted the musical instruments exemption on Wednesday.
Hopefully they'll sort out the fine details soon. I know there are different classification categories depending on how scarce.

I agree. The gent who played the husband NAILED the inflection on that line better than anyone I've ever heard.

Brazilian rosewood won't be exempted. I can understand that, but what happens when you're traveling and are asked to prove that your rosewood fingerboard isn't Brazilian?
Does it depend on whether you have an accent?

We all know what happens next...just can't write it... ;)
Essentially, one is still at the mercy - or lack thereof - of any border agent/customs officer UNLESS they dish out $85 and fill out a migraine of paperwork to get a passport for their instrument.
The impression I have, is that they don't bother unless you are a company. I recently bought another 60's gibson bass (maho/rosewood neck) and did'nt fill out anything. There seems to be no automatic customs procedure to pick out and look at guitars/parts, like they do when you try to order a gallon of cellulose paint..

That may be normal when you're shipping and receiving, but when you're a traveling musician at customs, you could still run into a big problem.

Yep. That's where the whole "passport" thing becomes handy BUT the paperwork was rather nauseating the last time I checked...
