In love with this one. A pity about the Jazz Pickups, but still:
https://eastwoodcustoms.com/projects/backlund-100-bass/?utm_campaign=EWCS%2014th%20FEB%202019%20%28KMUgW3%29&utm_medium=email&utm_source=BACKLUND%20BUYERS&_ke=eyJrbF9lbWFpbCI6ICJjaHJpcy1kZWtrZXJAaG90bWFpbC5jb20iLCAia2xfY29tcGFueV9pZCI6ICJNVGJROUUifQ%3D%3D
And they'll make a Mustang inspired bass.

A pity bout the shape too.
I've said my piece about Backlund before.
-
One thing is for sure: With 32" and this shape you can't say it's the umpteenth Fender copy :)
-
That's true. I still wouldn't buy anything associated with him even if I liked the shape.

Backlund (designer) and Bennett (entrepreneur) are two different people, and from what I recall, Backlund shares your feelings about Bennett.
-
Yes, they're two different people. Backlund chose to associate with him.
I would use a word other than entrepreneur to describe Bennett.
-
Understood on both counts.

People make mistakes.

Yes, people make mistakes. Sometimes, even when you forgive their mistakes, you choose not to associate with them. It's a moot point in my case because I think his designs are ugly and impractical.
Backlund knew nothing about guitar building or what it took, or even if his designs could be built successfully. He chose the wrong person to take care of all that, without doing due diligence. He still doesn't know anything about it, so now he's farming it out to Eastwood. At least they seem to have a reputation for honesty but I don't think that they sell quality products. YMMV.
