Title: Gibson EB750
Post by: eb750 on January 15, 2019, 12:13:50 AM
Looking for more information about the rare Gibson EB750.
If anyone can help me, it would be very much appreciated.
Thank you!

It was built from 1991 to 1996
It's an active semi acoustic bass.
Just like the EB-650, the EB-750 was designed by Phil Jones, formerly of the Gibson Custom Shop, and later working for Gruhn Guitars in Nashville. The EB-750 featured a mahogany long scale neck and deep, hollow maple body. Two Bartolini active pickups and a volume and tone control for each.
This model was discontinued in 1996.
The exact number produced is unknown, but 47 is a number that pops up regularly.
Most are finished in Natural: but Ministry bass player Paul Barker owns a black EB-750.

SPECIFICATIONS
• Maple, semi-hollow body
• Figured maple and sides
• Single cutaway
• Three piece mahogany set neck
• Rosewood fingerboard with abalone dot inlays
• 34½ inch scale. 21 frets
• 2+2 headstock
• Adjustable rosewood bridge
• F-holes
• Gold plated hardware
• Active circuit type
• Bartolini humbuckers
• Controls: Volume, treble, bass, balance

Somebody bought a burst one about a year back.

Thank you for the responses.

I know there are one or two members here that own one, or have in the past.  I am researching the design and development of this bass.
I was hoping that they would contact me or message here.  Each one that I can track down will add to the research.  Specifically looking for color and variations between the individual guitars.

Thank you!

We discussed that one here (http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=11170.0). It only sold last month. I can't remember if the seller was accepting offers and there's no way to tell now what it actually sold for unless it shows up later in their price guide. That asking price was on the high side and it was listed for many months.

The only owner I'm aware of here is Uwe, who has been preoccupied with other matters for a few months, but I expect him to be back in a few days.

It will be nice to have him back, been too quiet here :)

I'm friends with a fellow Dutchman on Facebook. He owns one too.
If you're on Facebook you could try to get in touch with him.

That's Scotty Allen's 750. I don't think he'll ever get $8K but he definitely doesn't need to sell. Scotty's an old friend; he has a large vintage collection.

If you have $25K in spare change, you can buy his 750 and his entire Kustom collection (https://reverb.com/item/11718641-kustom-vintage-bass-and-guitar-amplifiers-entire-collection-1965-1970-naugahyde).

Wow, what a Kustom collection.  That's not something you see every day.

That's the "I don't really want to sell it" price. That other one with the burst finish is beautiful!

The guy down in Texas that I bought my LP-12 from was a Kustom amp collector. The LP-12 was sort of a mallard in his heard. He would have a booth at one of the Texas Guitar Shows & one year had the founder of Kustom at his booth.

P.S...
I found an old reference to it on line......... I guess it was 15 years ago.

Announcing the appearance of Kustom founder Bud Ross at the "Worlds Largest Guitar Show" in Arlington, Texas on October 16th & 17th. Please visit http://www.texasguitarshows.com/Arlington04.htm or email Bryan Sawyer at bsawyer@fluid-aire.com or Neil Leverenz at neilleverenz@hotmail.com for more information. This event is co-sponsored by Vintage Guitar Magazine, which will be advertising the event and interviewing Bud for a future issue.

There will be a group of kollectors there, some of which are familliar names you see on this site, and a few local Dallas/Fort Worth kollectors that will have over 300 square feet of space filled with a large display of vintage Kustom guitars, amps, organs & microphones. It will no doubt be the most colorful booth there!

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet the man that created what we are all so addicted to, tuck-n-roll!

If you would like to be placed on the email list to receive more information as it becomes available, send me an email and I will be glad to add you to it. I also have a list of nearby hotels for you to choose from.

Thanks, and we hope to see you there!

Bryan Sawyer

Those Kustoms are just a small part of Scotty's amp collection.
