Will Obama make it alive to the election?

They arrested Adolf in a investigated White Supremisist assasination plot.
QuoteThe Denver television station quoted a law enforcement source as saying one of the individuals told them of a plan "to shoot Obama from a high vantage point using a ... rifle . . . sighted at 750 yards."
QuoteGartrell was apprehended during a routine traffic stop in Aurora and was found to have rifle scopes in his vehicle. He led authorities to a second man, who had an outstanding arrest warrant.
That man, later identified as Shawn Robert Adolf, jumped out of a sixth-floor hotel window after Gartrell led police to the room, creating a clatter that awoke patrons early Sunday morning.
Somethings have not changed here in America and I doubt ever will.
A shame ....yes.
A shock .....no.
Rick
Adolf as a sur name? Bad choice.
But Obama isn't the first presidential candidate or Prseident that has had plots against him, Ronald Reagan - neither black nor Democrat by his appearance I would say - was a victim too, any American leader makes a "good target" if you want to be in the history books. These guys look like plain nutcases to me, supremacist views match lacking IQs (rhyme intended).
That is not to say that the FBI and the Secret Service should not be watchful re Obama as I believe they indeed are. When he had his speech in Berlin, they certainly left nothing to chance.

Let's not forget Squeaky Fromme trying to shoot Gerald Ford...
I read an article about the safety of Obama. They think there's a 50/50 chance for an assasination, which is very, very hight. Normally the CIA only protects presidents, ex-presidents and people campaigning for the president, but Obama was protected much and much earlier.
His tour of Europe, and the reception he got there, indicates that he's being treated as more than a candidate for office. He's being received as if he were already elected.

Yes, but he was an
elected jelly donut.
When Hillary and Obama were going through their paces I said to my wife that I hope I'm wrong but I find it hard to believe that the conservative voters of the USA will be prepared to elect either a Woman of any race or a Black man. Its almost like the Democrats set themselves up to lose the un-loseable election.
It is going to be very interesting to watch the outcome.
Let's avoid turning this into a political discussion. Thanks.
Hmmm yep fair call Dave. Post modified.
I'm not really sure about all this?
The police are only charging them with gun violations and said that they were not capable of carrying the plan out even they they found two long range rifles with scopes & ammo (that did not have the range the police said) wigs, fake ID's & bullet proof vests, and even admitted to the plan, yet they are only being charged for gun violations?
I would have thought they would have locked them up and thrown away the key, regardless if they were capable. Look at the show bomber, he was incapable as well and they threw the book at him. I don't get why the police are down playing this so much. Who's pulling the strings here or is it just because they are meth addicts they can do no real harm?
That's the feeling I am getting from the authorities.

Now each party has one of the above in play. Looks like whichever party wins the election, history will be made!

Palin could become our first VPILF. ;D
Either way the country wins in my opinion.
That's how I see it too, it's the first US election in a long time that has me feeling relaxed about the outcome, because either candidate is a major step forward from the current status quo. Let me think, I think the last one was Ford vs. Carter! (Though in hindsight I believe that Ford would have handled both Iran and Afghanistan better, he was more experienced and realistic in foreign policy.)
Not complaining, mind you, but when does it officially become a political thread?

It's been teetering on the brink since the beginning, and it's time to close it down.
John's original question is valid, but let's face it, there's nothing that will divide a non-political community faster than introducing politics. Not even religion. There's no way to keep discussing the nominees without it being a political thread.
Thanks to all who weighed in and kept it civil.
