2016 marches on

No, no , no
I've caught his show several times and he was always great. On one occasion he delivered the most moving performance I have ever seen.
I was sitting in a balcony a few feet above his piano and no more than ten feet away. He introduced his song Janie and told the story of how it was his saddest day. As he played this incredibly sad song, I watched the tears pour out of his eyes all over his piano, which he played to perfection, and delivered the lyrics with only the faintest crack and tremble in his voice. It was magnificent and I too was moved to tears. I will remember that performance forever .
RIP Leon and thank you for sharing that moment with me,
Rick
I was hoping to go through 2016 without another musician that I care a lot about dying. Though it happened long ago, Leon's presence at the Bangladesh concert was memorable.
The first Soundstage show I ever saw in high school was Leon Russell. I've enjoyed his work ever since, even if I haven't followed him through the years. The Shelter People was an album I played over and over.

Great guy, who put together a fantasic band for Joe Cocker's USA Mad Dogs & Englishmen tour. In one band I'm in we do Alcatraz, the song about the infamous prison. RIP Mr Russell, you held the keys in your hands.
What a player. RIP. Not the first iconic keyboardist to go this year. I hope no more.
Very sad indeed. This song always reminds me of my youth spent in Panama.

I didn't realize that he had had a heart attack and bypass surgery a few months ago.
