Misidentified as an SG bass, can't be as early as 1960, no pics of the headstock/neck area and the bar bridge has been replace by a 3-point. But it looks good and might turn out to be a bargain for someone.

Gruhn's guide gives me 1962 from that serial nr. I'd love to get that one, if it was'nt molested by that miserable piece of three legged metal.
It sure looks like it has potential...
This one's been on my local CL for a while, previous ads had pics, and it looks to be in good shape - but I didn't want the slotted headstock:

- georgestrings
Is the last digit of the serial obscured digitally, or is it some form of damage? Looks suspicious to me, only because a tampered serial would suggest foul play.
That looks like a surface scrape to me. If anyone had tried to obscure the s/n, they would have done a better job than that.
Fast forward two months: somebody knew what it was. A different seller now has it listed at $1600 (http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/msg/5769943661.html)
And now the same bass has showed up at Willie's for $2595 (http://williesguitars.com/index.cfm/basses/10/inventory/2). :o
Tripled in price in 6 months! Still, now the whole bass is shown clearly. Bridge mod is unfortunate but no breaks. Price isn't that high, all things considered.
What's my '65 gonna be worth if I switch its pup cover with my '60? ;D

I remember having chrome envy in the '60s for a shiny new cover, luckily one never came my way.
