For decades, I have despised Seinfeld for teaching people that's what bass should sound like. >:( >:( >:(
I've always found it so obvious it was not a bass.
That's just not how a bass sounds.

Thank heavens!
I've always hated that tone, but I do agree it just works for Seinfeld. Absolutely nowhere else. Probably because it is such a ridiculous charicature of what a bass is; like the characters in the show are of people.
A younger, pre-bass-playing me just assumed it was some wanker slapping a Steinberger (I probably didn't know they were called that at the time, but I had seen enough of those ugly fuggers to know I was not interested) or Roland synth bass.
I always thought it sounded like synth bass.
Unfortunately (IMHO) some people do think that's how a bass should sound.
Never watched the show.

I was always surprised when people thought that was a real bass guitar. But, I was heavy into synths when samplers came around, so I was very familiar with that 12 bit "slap bass" type of patch.

Now that's more like it! Whether you like slap or not (I generally don't), this has a immediacy no synth can match. Plus she has mulit-color strings, a pretty face and a lovely smile.
Yeah she's cool and a good player no doubt, but I don't much care for that sound from a real bass either :)
I liked her Barney Miller clip better.
