If you look past the crotchety old coot tone, he's basically correct about a lot of it. That doesn't change the fact that there are lots of guys with the scratch and the willingness to fork out the big bucks for a P bass made the year they were born (hell, I'd like one too. 1965, please with JUN05 on the butt of the neck
). And as much as I like the look of vintage instruments, I am a believer in the idea that a brand new Strat with the same specs will sound just as killer in the hands of David Gilmour as any '58...
Actually, I
might even have a way to test some of the guys theories in a little while. Those Bach NR 'birds should be ready before too long. I have an original pickup I'll be putting in one and I'll put a Duncan repro in another. I'm thinking they're gonna sound just as good as the white '68 I had to sell last year (OK, I'm
hoping they will).
I'll post the results when I know.
