Other Bass Brands / Buzzard
« on: April 29, 2008, 11:30:00 AM »
I'm in a Buzzard phase and I visit the Custom Shop pages often.

What do you think of this, I 'designed' my perfect bass on paper.

Warwick Buzzard
neck through: maple neck with rosewood fretboard
mahogany wings
one passive MEC vintage humbucker in the middle position
kill switch only like a blackbird.

I guess it'll be a bit Rick 4003-ish with this maple neck and body-mid section, but also a bit Bird-ish with the mahogany wings and passive humbucker.

Gibson Basses / Zebrano vs. mahogany
« on: April 21, 2008, 12:14:00 PM »
I think we never discussed this here:

Some of you guys have a zebrano Thunderbird of the GOW-series. Unfortunately I haven't tried Uwe's. How do they sound? What's the big difference with mahogany?

Gibson Basses / Epiphone Rivoli
« on: April 12, 2008, 04:00:48 AM »
Here she is:

= I only played her amplified through my little warm and modern Vox T-25. 25W and 1x10. She sounds very warm on it! Especially with the switch on the bassiest sound. Warm, full. I know my T25 sounds a bit like my Orange rig, but on a lower volume, so I think I kinda like her!

- The headstock break is very bad repaired on the front (you almost don't see it at the back), but i think I know someone who can do something about it.

- It has a single coil. You can hear some hum, when it's turned to the amp, but it isn't very noisy. No real problem. I have to get the chrome cover off, but I guess it's a 50s P single pick up or something. It still has a switch for two sounds, the one being more bassy and having more volume than the other.

- The wood's very nice, especially the back side.

- The colour is much more amber than my girlfriends Sheraton.

- Action and so are good.

- Do all Korean Epiphones have the jack input side mounted?

- Is the 2-way toggle normal? Shouldn;t that be a little push switch?

Bass Amps & Effects / What's your favorite bass overdrive / fuzz?

What's your favorite bass overdrive / fuzz?

I used to use an Ibanez PD7. A bit metal-ish, but it had a nice fuzz or a clean boost. Both very usable. Now I have the EHX English Muff'n. It sounds great for bass. Only difficult to tweak. It works like a real amp. I a bass has a higher output, the Muff'n will overdrive more. Volume and gain affect eachother. The PD7 just does what it says and doesn't change with more or less input.

The Outpost Cafe / Saxondale
« on: March 30, 2008, 07:17:47 AM »
My brother sent me the complete series 1 of the BBC series Saxondale to me for my birthday. And it's hilarious!

Steve Coogan (24H Party People) is Tommy Saxondale. An ex-roadie who worked for all the famous bands back in the seventies. He's a pest controller now, but still kicking the system. Sad but brilliant. The episodes are full of 'quotes' and adventures off and with all the famous people he worked with. The opening and end tune are Dutch! House of the King and Hocus Pocus, both from Focus. The series are as painful as Ricky Gervais' 'Extras', the scenes and dialogues are hilarious, casting's perfect and you just have to see it. of course you'll find some nice scenes at YouTube.

It seems I have won the Jules barebone EB-0. We jsut have to sort out some payment and shipment things.

Other options?

Thanks!

Other Bass Brands / Gretsch Billy Bo Jupiter Thunderbird Bass
« on: March 24, 2008, 10:08:06 AM »
Just typing 'Gretsch Billy Bo Jupiter Thunderbird Bass' is great.

I saw it in Germany. It looked great, it's shortscale, it has TV Jones pick ups and I love it. Has anybody played it amplified?

3000 dollar is a bit too much for me at the moment, unfortunately. Or I have to sell the 4005...

Gibson Basses / Jazz neck project
« on: March 24, 2008, 09:55:54 AM »
Of course the Non-rev BaCH will be here this year. I'm also bidding on Jules' EB0-body (and I have a Darkstar in a box somewhere), but what would be a nice idea to do with a fake F****r-decalled maple black-block Jazz neck I have.

- Fenderbird. Putting the Jazz neck at a Thunderbird type body, JAE-style.
- Explorerbird. Putting the Jazz neck at an Explorer type body. JAE-style.
- Buzzer. Putting the Jazz neck at a Buzzard type body.
- Billy Bender. Putting the Jazz neck at a Gretsch Billy Bo Jupiter Thunderbird Bass type body.
- Other. Please post.

And if you voted:

Pick ups:
- Darkstar?
- Trying to put my two Epi T-bird pups in the two 70s chrome covers I have.
- One Epi in chrome cover
- Other?

I dunno if I do something with the results, but maybe you come up with some nice ideas:)

Gibson Basses / New Boilersuit T-bird recordings
« on: March 16, 2008, 02:16:05 AM »
Tonight we have a releaseparty of our new EP. We recorded it almost live on tapes in our own rehearsal bunker. So no overdubs, no ProTools or Logic and you can hear some little mistakes and so. But we like it.

You can har all the songs at www.boilersuit.nl
Go to 'Audio' and click on one of the songs. Sometimes it takes a little time for them to load.

All the songs are recorded with my '76 Thunderbird through an Orange AD200B and Orange 410 cab. Mic: Rode NT1. That's it. I used a heavy fuzzing Electro Harmonix English Muff'n for the bass part on Because She Cares.

I believe Basvarken is releasing his CD next week.
