The Bass Zone / Re: Can someone clear up something for me? wood question

Anybody ever heard one of the composite basses made by Ibanez or Cort?

Never heard one...wonder how they sound, and how that fits in with the whole "wood" thing.

I'll admit to being somewhat of a heathen here... I'll even advance the theory that, while different woods etc./ styles of construction (i.e. bolt on / neck thru) will have slight effect on tone --the effect to my ear is minimal as long as good quality materials are being used.

Some basses do sound bad because of cheap plywood etc., but I've heard some poplar Mexi Precisions, for instance, that sounded really good.  Danelectros are masonite, and have a unique, very usable tone.

A good guitar will sing without even being plugged in.  YMMV.

It's an appropriate set-up for what you do.

I also used to love to listen to Uriah Heep Live...still have it on CD...loved everything but the tone of Mick Box's guitar--to me it sounds as if it is constantly filtered through a wah pedal that's on, but not being manipulated by the user, if that makes sense.

The vocals are awesome, as is the bass playing.

That Blues Bros quote has to be the funniest one-liner...

Oh...guess that's stuff I'm too old to have heard, much less care about. Always used to think that about Jackson Browne...like why is this guy whining at me about his lovelife...

Of course, if there was a funky groove, the music may have redeeming social qualities...

That is a temptation...I've been thinking of buying a 5 string

Is it noisy?

A zillion years ago I saw Emmylou Harris at the University of Cincinnati Fieldhouse--awful cavernous acoustics

I think it was Emory Gordy Jr playing a (then new) Stingray with a pick and some sort of flatwound or groundround strings---I remember being impressed back then (probably '75? or so) that it sounded real clear in the fieldhouse.

The two other acts on the bill that night, Earl Scruggs, and Pure Prairie League, both used precision basses that boomed with an indistinct roar.

Could something like that be saved by removing Fender pups and a solid refin?

Thank you...a dear friend of the band designs the site for us basically gratis...odd thing about the rockers...whenever we have needed something (such as a website, management expertise, etc)...it's just always appeared out of thin air.
