Gibson Basses / Good price on 2 Tbirds at BassNW
« on: July 14, 2010, 04:20:40 PM »
Saw these and of course thought of Mark  ;)

First, a good candidate for a FenderBird:

Second, a good price on a white Gibson Bird:

I know Mark's flock has grown significantly recently (while his bank account has been reduced) but someone here might like these.

Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / LP Doublecut tracing
« on: January 27, 2010, 08:47:57 AM »
Does anyone have an Lp type doublecut body that I can get a tracing from please? It doesn't need to be a Gibson, it can be a Hamer or any other brand. A doublecut guitar might also work if nothing else. Let me know if you can help.

Thanks,
Andy

Hey all. I was stripping the hardware off my GothBird project and have run in to a bit of a problem. I had planned on removing the 3 point bridge and replacing it with an ABM type of bridge (think the type thats on a double cut bass). Apparently the previous owner glued the bridge inserts into the body, which might be ok but one of them sticks out of the body at least 1/4". I was trying to remove the inserts without ruining them so any help, tips or advice would be appreciated. If it did take some wood out of the body when removing the inserts it's not a huge deal as I will be doing plenty of patching on this one already. I really don't want to keep the 3 point on there as I'm not a fan of them. I could at worst case replace it with a Hipshot replacement like I have on my Gibson, but I was really trying to take this project a whole different direction. Also I'm trying to use up parts that I already have on hand. Sooooo....any ideas?

I could swear this one has been for sale before, maybe back in the Pit days?? Am I crazy and/or confused? Maybe a new addition to Mark's flock?

Gibson Basses / Epi sunburst & chrome bolt on model
« on: October 19, 2009, 07:55:56 PM »
Probably the same setup as the Silverburst basses, but it's in sunburst. Seems a little high, unless it's not going to be an easily available model. It seems like they could sell a lot of this type of run since people seem to want chrome hardware.

Gibson Basses / Thunderbird pickguard question
« on: August 18, 2009, 07:44:25 AM »
Does anyone know what the difference is between pickguards from mid 60's reverse T-birds and the more current models? This link says that these guards only fit that 63-66 time frame. Are they larger or smaller??? Close to the same?

I picked up an Epi Goth Tbird ($70 on Craigslist!)to use as a project a couple of days ago and wanted to get a little advice from the group. The input jack has been yanked out of the wood and it has left a jagged hole in the face of the guitar. I had originaly thought about using a strat style jack plate on the face which would more than cover the hole and make the jack less likely to break thru again. But, I was also thinking about patching the hole and moving the input jack to the end of the body like on my 01 Gibson Bird. I kind of like this idea more than the strat plate. To patch this area I would assume that I would just glue a piece of wood into the control cavity and fill in the damaged area with a filler of some type. Would you use wood filler, bondo, epoxy???? Keep in mind that I have almost zero experiance working on this type of thing (at least on a musical instrument) but it seems like a simple enough task. I can't post pictures at this time due to a tragic beach accident with my camera, but will post them when I'm able. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Gibson Basses / Epi Silverburst Special Run T-birds

I actually like the look of these. All chromed out looks good with the finish IMO.I just wonder about the pickups. Are they leftover from the Epi LP Standards? Same as in the Elite series? Just the typical Epi Tbird pups in chrome covers? Not a bad looking bass for $300.
