Or a Mel bass if you weren't paying attention a few years prior. Nice Gibson touch, I think.

I thought Mel used a Guild pickup. Or was that Berry Oakley?

I like it, though I wouldn't pay that personally. Especially the bound neck with blocks!

Mel's had the Gibson mudbucker.
Berry Oakley's had a Hagstrom-made Guild (inspiration for Fred Hammon's Dark Star).
Not sure about the price on this one, I think an umodded 71 J might bring 3K.

One of my friends just routed out his longhorn and installed a NOS mudbucker that I had laying around. It's so powerful that it's rattling his cabinet apart. I've taken to calling it the Schacher Rocker.

I just had Grand Funk's second album on tonight in my car, the red album, can't beat the sound of those basses especially with fuzz boxes, listening to Felix a lot too.

I like it. The dude in Santana had a Fender with a mudbucker too but I can't recall if it was a P or J. I remember when people routed the bridge area to install those huge Badass bridges. A friend of mine did that to his perfect '66 Jazz bass with dots and binding. He also put Dimarzio's it it......This was back in the late 70's when you could by those Jazz basses for under $200 though.
