Mike Mills playing a non-reverse IV
« on: November 09, 2010, 08:12:39 AM »
I found this photo from a November 1994 issue (No 12) of Mojo magazine. Taken during the "Document" sessions in 1987:

Nice pic.
He's one of the main reasons I picked up the bass.
There's some quite tasty bass lines under REM's music.

Indeed. My fav is "Murmur" where he played quite a lot his 4001 if I'm not terribly mistaken. The T-Bird was a new thing, I thought he used his Guild Pilot or a Precision at this point.

Oddly enough I have seen REM more than any other band.  The best show that I saw he was playing a P through those B-15 100w tube rigs from about 10 years ago.  He has good tone for sure.  I can't get the Tbird pic to pop up though.
Model One and Schallers?  Ish.

Murmur is certainly great, and so is Chronic Town - Boxcars was one of the first songs I ever learned to play on bass.

Like I said it is from "Document" sessions and he may have used it only then, maybe it wasn't even his bass and probably never used it live. A nice add to a non-reverse players collection anyway.

IIRC he used a 4001 quite a bit early on.  I love this Letterman clip.
