New Zoom H1

Not exactly a bass-only topic but we don't have a recording gear section.

new Zoom H1 introduced at Musikmesse

Lists for  €119 including VAT and can apparently be ordered for €99. That's about one-third less than the H2. Sounds like a bargain to me.

H2 is a great tool, two of my friends got it and can't stop saying good things about it.
Music was better when ugly people were allowed to make it.

Hmmm.  119 Euros = $160.

99 Euros = $133.

That becomes tempting!

That's with VAT, and the prices don't correspond to currency converters anyway. I suspect US street price will be about $100.

These things are so cool.  I've got a lot to learn about my H4n.  The software it comes with is another challenge since I know zip about recording, etc.  I did find a nice recording forum, much like ours, where newbies like us can go for help.  I'm lurking around there now as the are are some posts on the Zoom products.

That definitely looks like the place to go.

I see someone already griping about the micro SD slot on the H1 because of the cost, claiming it's $200 for a 32gb card. Nonsense. Last time I looked it's about $90 for 32gb for either SD or micro SD.

Anyone paying that kind of money for a Micro AS card is shopping in the wrong place.  I can't beat Ebay for memory cards.

The La La Lies just bought an H2 some weeks ago. Great little device. We use it in our rehearsal room. Listening back to your own songs you immediately notice if you play it too fast or if it's too long or short.

I hear that it can also tell if the bassist has gained weight.  ;)

Ive been using a minidisc recorder, a micPre and a Rode M3 for this purpose but I've resolved myself to getting one of these. They look (and I hear sound) great.

Fastest way to get a band progressing along is to record the rehearsal/practice session and edit out the crap, burn the good stuff to CD and make sure every band member has a copy within 2 days of the session. Its interesting how much ppl hate hearing themselves as less than perfect.  ;)

Why burn it on CD?? Email the MP3! That's faster, easier and more effective.

true but then they have excuses like:

*all said with whiney voice
"my car stereo cant play mp3's"
" I didnt get around to uploading the file you emailed me to my iPod"
"sorry dude, haven't checked my emails for 2 weeks. BTW which account did you send it to?" (drummer obviously)

To be honest I put the files on my server as well as giving them a CD  ;D
