1958 EB-1?????
« on: May 21, 2018, 12:34:44 PM »
The seller is a bit off on this one...………. He says it's one of only 45 produced in '58. It has the same case that my first reissue had that I though was an aftermarket case, but I've seen several since with the same chunks of bare foam on the lid.

No brown plastic-covered single coil pickup, no banjo tuners, no bar bridge, no fake f-hole, no pinstriping, and a s/n that couldn't possibly be from the 50s. Am I missing anything else?

He's either badly misinformed or a con artist.

He’s owned it since the sixties..........

You usually don't get this kind of false information from someone that claims to have owned his instrument since before the model was actually sold?!!??%#%$@!
I wonder if it was stolen or possibly inherited to somebody that hasn't a clue as to what it is...…….

I missed that gem.

Contacting him would only bring an angry denial. He must know what he really has.

Caveat emptor.

Thankfully it ended without a bid. I checked in today to see if he had relisted, and it has been completely removed, you can't even see the ended auction. I wonder why.

It has become 10 years younger now, that seems about right.

Not the same bass we were talking about. Note the "The listing you’re looking for is no longer available. Check out this similar item we found for you."

The so-called 1958 EB-1 was actually a legit EB-1 reissue, probably from 1970 since it didn't have the Made In USA impressed.

The guy who bought the same bass twice — first in 1977 and again in 2023

Looks like he's back...………………

I wonder what the story is with the earlier (Dog Eared) hand rest. the holes are visible from the original. Maybe he just wanted to showcase the innovative "Tilt-O-Matic" bridge.

Earlier than what? The 50s originals didn't come with a hand rest. I didn''t notice in his prior auction, but that sure doesn't look like the rest that came with the reissues either.

He claims he moved it b/c he plays with a pick "to allow easy playing over the pickup." Regardless, it doesn't look wide enough to cover the bridge.

I actually thought that if it was to make a comeback it would have had a revised description.  :o

The 68 version came with the wider chrome handrest over the Evertilt. Grog is right that you can still see that holes on either of the bridge.

I think we're confusing terms here. AFAIK once the Evertilt was introduced, the handrest was discontinued, and a bridge cover was introduced. The holes you can see on either side of the bridge are from a bridge cover, but what he refers to as a "bridge guard" is almost certainly a handrest from a pre-'68 EB-0/EB-3. He didn't move it from over the bridge b/c it's not a bridge cover, it didn't come with the bass, and it's not wide enough to cover the Evertilt and fit those screw holes.

But he's owned the bass since before it was manufactured, so he must be an expert.
