Did anyone tried out the new Dead On Longhorn?
-
nope...
-
Not yet... I see Spacetone in San Antonio has them in stock, I'll try to get down there this week.
-
yeah, i'm interested too. They are pretty cheap, and originals just don't come up.
-
Here's mine, got it a few months ago.

How does it sound compared to old ones, or a Jerry Jones?
How's the workmanship?

I played one today at South Austin Music but did not plug it in. The fit and finish are great and the action was super. They had theirs for $399.

$349 at the big online and eBay stores. $349 at Spacetone. I would pay the state sales tax to buy from a local dealer I like, but not $50 more plus sales tax.

Tell us how she sounds, Leftybass!

Truthfully, I dont see/feel that much difference in build quality between the new Dano and my Jerry Jones basses. One thing I like about the Dano is the "reliced" look, not damaged/worn-looking, just old-looking. Everything(finish, metal parts) has a dull finish to it. Looks very cool IMO.
The sound is even more snarly midrange than my JJs, it cuts thru live like you would not believe. I like the seperate volume and tone controls for each pickup, the knobs are a bit cheesy feeling but hey, it's a Dano. Bass is light and well-balanced. I can't really think of a negative thing to say about it.

Thanks for the review, Ronn. Now I'm more interested.
If it didn't have cheesy knobs, then it wouldn't be Dead On.

I saw one the other day at Sam Ash when I went to buy some new caster wheels and it was pretty darn neat! I thought it looked well done, and the faded look works well with it.

Forgot to mention: truss rod adjusts at the headstock, tho' I didn't need to, which I believe is different/easier than the previous reissues IIRC.
-
I think the '09s are the first ones which do not require the removal of the neck to adjust the truss rod. On my '63 Ri, made in '07 I still have to remove the neck to adjust.
