mp3 tag editing software
« on: March 01, 2013, 10:42:00 AM »
Anyone have any recommendations? Freeware or moderately priced shareware preferred.  I want something that will show me all possible fields.

In Windows Media Player you can edit the song title, album, composer, artist, genre, year, contributing artist, parental rating, and rating. Maybe more, but these for sure. Do you need more?

Yes, I need more. You can do the same with VLC media player or iTunes, but I want all the fields.

I've just downloaded a freeware program called TagScanner, it shows more fields but I'm not sure that's all of them.

Audacity's metadata editor doesn't have all the fields.

I like the NCH stuff, but I wasn't aware that any of it was free after the trial.

It's not. It's reasonably priced though.

I'm not happy with NCH though, despite Mark's recommendation. During the installation, I was given the option of installing extras, including the dreaded Ask.com toolbar. I left all the boxes unchecked, yet a utility program I use alerted me that the program was trying to install the toolbar. I denied permission and immediately uninstalled the program and did a System Restore to be sure. But despite the restore, when I restarted after the restore, the damned Ask toolbar tried to install itself as an extension to Firefox. I had to remove it manually.

I understand that software companies get money for bundling these options with their software, but it's outrageous to install it in spite of the customer's refusal.

I use MP3tag, it is freeware and I think it does everything you need: http://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html

Thanks for the suggestion, someone else mentioned this to me by email.

It's a little more intuitive to use than TagScanner, but TagScanner has three more extended fields which will help on certain folders. No problem, I'll keep both programs.

Thanks, all.
