Title: Got a baritone
Post by: drbassman on January 10, 2010, 05:04:36 PM
Been watching the rare baritone sell on eBay for $1500 or more over the last couple months and threw a low bid on a US made Ovation and got it for under a grand.  I'll report on it after it arrives.

I can't get the pics from the auction to copy so here's a picture of a natural one from the Ovation site.  Mine will be a trans cherry finish.  I should have it in a couple days.

Actually, it looks like Nancy is still quite a looker.  Nice!

this winter as it is and having lived in Wisconsin for a few years, there is something to be said for girls with large body mass and inherent body heat!! just not too large!!  ;) ;)

I agree, substantial is good, just as long as there isn't too much of a good thing!

Nice baritone.

Nancy used to be parlor guitar size. Now she's a dreadnought model.

I don't know... I'd say she done passed up dreadnought and gone right through to jumbo.

Well, she may be a chunky monkey now, but she sure was pretty back in the day.

Remember flower child folkie Melanie (Safka)? She was a pretty young thing, now she's big as Nancy Wilson and Stevie Nicks put together.

Yes, I do remember Melanie.  She had a beautiful, kinda lilting folksy voice.  Oh well, I'm not as thin as I used to be either and I'm missing some hair!!!!  :o

I hear you, but she's three times the girl she used to be. Seriously. And that can't be good. I saw a pic of her being helped to the mic by a couple of assistants, either they were were midgets or she was enormous.

And Stevie Nicks... ever hear The Rotters' infamous "Sit On My face, Stevie Nicks"? That could cause serious damage today.

OK, I want to tune this thing an octave below a guitar, not the typical D or B tuning that a lot of folks who play these things prefer.  Any thoughts on strings for this purpose? There's precious little info on the web about baritones!

BTW, it sounds and looks great.  I've never been a fan of Ovation styling and engineering, but this guitar really sounds goods and plays easy.  I think I'll keep it around for awhile.....

What scale is it? You could always experiment with a heavy electric geetard set, or a Bass VI set.

It's 28" scale, so I thinking just what you suggested.

Here she is!!!  Except for one very small ding on the top, she looks brand new.

I agree.  The inlays are cool too, they are actually maple.
