Need a measurement for a NR T-Bird body
« on: September 02, 2008, 09:05:13 AM »
Can someone please tell me distance from the edge of the upper bout on the NR body to the side of the neck? I have a tracing of the Epi NR body, but had to do a little altering to work with the neck I want to use on it and just want to make sure I get the neck in the right spot. Thanks!

Hopefully this picture will explain what I'm after. I want it from the far outer edge to the side of the neck.

Does that make more sense than my original question?

Also, where do you prefer to have you strap buttons located?

Thanks for any help/advice you can give.

If you have the centerline from your tracing, you should be able to place the pocket. Measuring from the "outside" in could still offset the neck. I'm finishing up with my Explorer ( guitar ) project and Mr. Centerline has saved me more than once. Having said that, I don't know of a good way to find the center if it's not marked on your tracing.
Hope that's more encouraging than discouraging.
Anyone else have a formula for determining the center of an asymmetrical shape?
Best Wishes, :toast:

Yep, going form the center line is the best recipe for success.

I have a center line that I'm working from, just want to make sure that it's semi accurate. The original tracing wasn't done using centerlines or points of reference unless you count the neck pocket, which is what I'm kinda using now. Things seem to look right, just wanted to kind of get a more acurate idea.

Using the center line on the body blank and the center line on the current tracing it seems like I'm working in the right direction. I just dont want to do any cutting til I know for sure that it's safe to do it.

Thanks for your input guys!
