Working Bassplayer!
« on: April 12, 2010, 03:22:56 PM »
Finally earned some bucks as a bassplayer! I'm now a steet musician!
I'm playin' my Dean acoustic/electric thru a little ROCK amp that uses 8 D batteries.
Does the job. :D
The Dean uses a 9 volt battery too.
We'll see how long the batteries last....
Got a $20 right off the bat singin' & playin' Sunshine of Your Love last nigt!
Guess it warmed the guy's heart on a cold, rainy night.
Got a fiver from a chick who loved my doors medley which included Waiting For The Sun, Break On Thru, Indian Summer & People Are Strange.
Got a nice kiss from a hot young blonde girl who couldn't find change & really wanted to give me something.
That was the BEST!
One Man BANNED! heh
Mostly ones...but I'm off to a ROARING start....

Back in the day...
I could easily clear $50.00 in an hour busking solo slap bass in San Francicso,
once I started using a little trick I picked up from watching other street performers;

"The Ending".

I found that people were more inclined to drop money when prompted.
So as soon as I had an audience of any considerable size,
I'd do a blues ending and hold up the hat.

That way, what I ended up with were a series of little performances,
rather than just playing endlessly,
where people tended to wander off after watching a little while.

Toughest crowd I've ever worked though.
I mean, it's one thing to get people to stop and listen to you
(when they have somewhere else to go)
but it's an entirely different challenge to get them to give you money.

Thanks for the feedback!!
Surf City is a pretty cool place to do this. Wipeout & Pipeline are in every set.
Wish I could play guitar like these guys:

Every Tuesday is a Street Fair & musicians are allowed to get pretty LOUD!
Hopefully I'll do well tonight....

That SRV and Dick Dale cut is one of my all-time favorites.  I take my bass line for Pipeline from the tempo of that video.

Gave my friend back his little amp & went & bought a bitchen little Crate amp today--15 watts, battery within that charges up with the same cord that you can use for AC plug.
It's got an 8" speaker & I got the 2 year extended warranty with it so it was 160 plus--just a little over 2 hun.

I'm in business. :D

Ha ha Yeah! I just got it back from the pawn shop. :D

8 cops chased a guy with a bloody face down Main St. & tackled him right in front of me last night.
Coincidentally I had just learned the riff to Another One Bites The Dust so I played that as they cuffed him & dragged him off.
Got some cheers & laffs & a few bucks tooo lol

A drunk cat gave me 20 bucks even tho I don't know his request for The Man Who Sold The World.
He kept singing:
"Who knows? Not me"
I said "me neither" heh
So then he starts humming Satisfaction & of course I know that one so he gives me another 20 & wanders off happily.

I've got almost a full tank of gas in me van now. YARRRRrrr

Damn~ I managed to screw up the pickup on my acoustic/electric Dean bass so now it's just acoustic, which is too quiet for street rockin'.
So I got my Epi Flyin' V outa hok yesterday & I'll see how that works tonight.
Yes, indeed~ Got my V yesterday & getting a P back today!!
