Ted is her father.
The guy who bought the same bass twice — first in 1977 and again in 2023

After about one minute of the same slap groove over and over I gave up.
Not my cup of tea...

WTF? You think you can post somebody's music here and everybody has to like it because you do? And if somebody doesn't like the music, that makes it "rude"?

Bullshit on that. This is a discussion forum. People are allowed not to like it, and they're allowed to say so.

It's fine not to like something just don't body slam a little girl cuz you think she's not as good as you.
How do you think she'd feel if I invited her to join this fine forum & she read your posts on this thread?
Lighten up & wise up, moderator/host. Crikey. Let's make this a more fun & supportive place.
FUNK IN A is a clever title & a pretty damn cool & fun piece of music. Say it fast-- Funk In A

I'm sorry but I don't understand what this is all about Terry.
All I did was check out the link you gave us. I gave it a try. But after one minute I gave up. I didn't like it. I think I put it rather politely.
I never said that I think that I'm better. Where did you get that idea?
Being critical doesn't imply one feels superior.
I just hate shallowness. I could've written "Oh it's awesome".
But I didn't, because I want to be honest.

Saying it faster doesn't help either ;)

LOL! Anybody brazen enough to call herself the "Duchess of Funk" is not some "little girl" who will think it's a "body slam" if someone doesn't like her music.

I'm not going to be "supportive" by saying I like something when I really think it's awful.

It has nothing to do with thinking I'm better, it's all about whether I like the music. And I sure don't like her music.

Does she know Dick Dale?

Terry, don't get so damn indignant. If people don't like something they're going to tell you, here or on any forum.

This is just my impression, but funk seems to be one of those genres which someone either loves or hates.  Personally, I just don't like it.  I find the lack of interesting chord progressions really boring.  However, this doesn't mean that I don't have respect for the genre or the people in it.  For instance, George Clinton and Flea certainly have my respect.  But if I want to listen to music, it isn't going to be funk.

She sounds very technically proficient.  I listened to part of "Funk in A" and it doesn't do anything for me.  however, when I listen to Victor Wooten doing comparable stuff it also does nothing for me - it's just a style I don't happen to care for, although I appreciate (and admire) the technical difficulty.  I like some of her other stuff better.

I didn't read a single rude comment in this thread - there are none.  we all must undertand that what we like may leave others cold. I happen to love Dick Dale's contemporary stuff, but I know others here don't care for it.  No biggie.

You understand the reference to Dick Dale had nothing to do with his music, right? ;)

And the term "funk" is getting a bum rap here, people. "Funk" isn't about playing basslines so busy there isn't room to cram another note in. Some people like to hear stuff like that, good for you. But it isn't funk.
