I've modded my Bach with a chinese 9.2K TB-PUP.

Where I usually blend PUP outputs I never used that option on this bass with the black bridge PUP because I felt it dulled the sound of the single-coil P-PUP. As expected, the TB-PUP adds a magnificent sparkle to the P-PUP.  :-*

Also decided to mount a PUP-cover so I can use 2 thumb-rest positions ( 2nd on the TB-PUP ) for different sounds. That the chrome combines beautifully in the looks dept. is an added bonus  ;D

Gibson Basses / SG Standard Bass 2015
« on: May 19, 2016, 02:14:00 AM »
Gibson seems to be dumping the 2015 model on the European market. Thomann and Music Store ( both German - jawohl Herr Direktor ! - superstores ) offer it for under EUR 900 which came in pretty handy for me because I just sold my troubled 2005 model ( remember my last years cracked neck post ? )

It was delivered yesterday and one of the first things that got my eye is the somewhat smaller headstock. Gibson's next bid in reducing neck-dive ?  :o

The Babicz ( pronouced: ba-bitch ?   :rimshot: ) bridge and I got it off instantly, though I have to reserve judgement to its changing the sound of the original product. As much as I hate tuning up the 3-point, its sound really works for me on the SG and I never even considered getting a Hipshot replacement. Having said that I have to admit the Babicz's got me curious and was one of the reasons that made me decide to get this bass .....  :-[

I know this model got a real slagging here when it was released and I did agree on most of it but when I got my hands on this baby two years ago, all was forgotten ........ ;)

Sure, the PUPs look cheapo and ugly as sin and the design is all over the place but she plays like butter and she's probably the best contructed bass I own. The PUPs sound really good, albeit with a bit too much presence in the high & hi-mid frequencies for my taste ( but that's what pre-amp controls are made for, right ?!!  ??? ), and the neck is a joy. She works really nice in the band and the Rock Orange fin really stands out .......

...... and check the reactions in the audience ..... ;D

So curiousity got the better of me and I had to ask: Any other ( secretly ) converted LBO members in the meantime ?

Gibson Basses / SG Bass Crack
« on: March 21, 2015, 04:57:30 AM »
Would this be a relic ?  ;)  On the day of Andy Fraser's passing a crack surfaced in the neck/headstock joint of my SG .......... 8)

Any one ever seen this before ? And if so, will it end up in a vintage Gibson headstock break ? Just wondering .....

Sound checking my Standard SG and Supreme Natural SG Bass on the same rig at a gig yesterday I noticed the Standard was on the edge of feedback while the Supreme had no such problem. Both basses were plugged in with the exact same settings on the amp and pre-amp with both basses' PUPs in my fave sweet spot setting and there was no real diffrence in the volume coming from the rig.

That got me curious so I set the volumes on the PUPs way open on both basses and the same thing happened. That's got me wondering if there's a connection between the diffrence in the woods ( full mahogany / 50/50 mahogany & maple ) used for the body or maybe the density ( and weight ) of the wood used. Or whatever ......  ???

Anybody's got any insights in this ?

Gibson Basses / Natural
« on: December 05, 2011, 05:41:18 AM »
To avoid "I don't do fins" meditations I convinced myself I needed a Natural SG Supreme to experiment with, string wise. So yesterday I scored a 2nd Supreme on evilBay .....  ;D

I haven't felt any guilt since I clicked the Buy Now button, so I must've done a sterling job on myself ....  8)

Gibson Basses / Epi EB-3 Elitist ?
« on: December 08, 2010, 07:21:20 AM »
Been following this baby for some time. Did ask the guys at Ishibashi if this really is an Elitist, because I can't see the Elitist logo on the back of the headstock and it doesn't say Elitist on the TRC. They were kinda puzzled themselves and promised to get back to me.

Did mention this on the dutch basgitaar forum. Rob Basvarken reacted saying that, as far as he understood the complex Orville > Orville by Gibson > Epiphone history, all MIJ Epi's are considered Elitists. That really tickles my curiosity bone so can anyone here please shine a light on this subject ? Cheers !

« on: November 22, 2010, 01:11:34 AM »
Picked up a 2nd Starfire yesterday. Had to rail all the way down to Dordrecht where I met with the seller who came up to Dordrecht to cut down my travel time. Took me a little under 3 hours to get there, that's about the limit for me where puplic transportation is concerned .....  ;)

She'll be on the rails again to Gouda this friday. PeterB's gonna fit her with ChiSonics and give her the standard CTS pots & Switchcraft jack-out upgrade.

Gibson Basses / SG Supreme Fireburst
« on: October 12, 2010, 01:04:05 AM »
I don't know what it is with the SG Bass. When it arrived I thought it an ill conceived baby but it got me hooked nevertheless and now it's my main axe. When I first saw the Supreme in Fireburst I bursted a gut laughing and wondered how much the development guys had to drink when they dreamed it up...... and for some time now I've got latent GAS for this fin ...... Fickleness thy name be Droombolus ?  ;D

Anyway: This baby popped up on eBay Germany and I'm going to bid, so please ........
