I didn't know Tom Lyle was a dj now.  I used to love Gov't Issue.  one of my favorite dischord bands!

Heh, I remember a lot of those names but somehow the only one I actually saw was False Prophets - good live show.

On a related note, I saw Bad Brains last week. The band still seriously rocks the hell out. What a rhythm section.  I even really liked the dub songs.
H.R. seems to have mentally permanently left planet earth though. He seemed kinda disinterested in the hardcore stuff and didn't really even try to sing. Worth it to see the rest of the band though.
Basses: Gibson lpb-1, Gibson dc jr tribute, Greco thunderbird, Danelectro dc, Ibanez blazer.  Amps: genz benz shuttle 6.0, EA CXL110, EA CXL112, Spark 40.  Guitars: Danelectro 59XT, rebuilt cheap LP copy

Damn, I used to think I knew something about '80s HC, but then I only recognized like 4 names on that list.  And the only two I ever listened to were Regan Youth and Jerry's Kids.

I used to read maximum rock n roll all the time and there were always hundreds of bands popping up.  I guess it was the diy thing and the anything goes attitude.

Back in 1980 / 1981 I was really into Sham 69, Crass, Discharge, Dead Kennedys etc.

But I wasn't really a punk rocker myself. I just liked the music, the lyrics and the energy. Not the dress code... ;)

the guitar player in my old band is the 'zine coordinator for maximum RNR.and yes there have always been tons of bands, but this show is all the bands that used to play the A7 club.also i'm a big record & zine collector for 25 years ie i know my shit and there are bands on that show i've never heard of. but i'm super stoked to see the Abused,Antidote,Jerry's kids,Major Conflict and Urban waste.i jammed with Paul Cripple the guitar player from Reagan Youth about 2 weeks ago.we may do something.but Dave the original singer has been dead for years.they've got some kid singing now.its just not the same

Aussie Punk bands that I liked were

Radio Birdman
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ul8x9EAQLUI

The Saints
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Q-GueNOKolo

Lime Spiders
http://youtube.com/watch?v=2UodZ_fFyO8

Exploding White Mice
No clips unfortunately

and

Frenzal Rhomb
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Y_BJE6U3mVk

Radio Birdman are probably the most ageless of all of them musically. Admitedly apart from Frenzal these bands are 70's more than 80's. To be honest  AC/DC (pronounced Acka Dacka by bogans all over Oz) were the first band in Australia to get the tag of a Punk band. for a few years from about 74 to 77 they were constantly referred to as a punk rock band by the media. This is of course before the term meant what it means today.
