Title: Epiphone nonreverse Thunderbird question
Post by: Denis on February 21, 2009, 03:21:23 PM: Anyone have any thoughts about Epi nonreverse Thunderbirds? Do they have the same sound as the reverse models?

Post by: gweimer on February 21, 2009, 05:06:53 PM: They have completely different pickups, for starters. Instead of the usual humbuckers, the NR Epi has a P/J pickup configuration. Some people like them, others don't. The only one I ever played left me cold, mostly due to the feel of the neck.

Post by: Nocturnal on February 21, 2009, 06:40:17 PM: I had one for a few months. I liked it overall. I liked the p-j pickups and thought that the stock ones weren't bad at all. It was a little heavy to me, but not horrible. If I had kept it I would have switched out all of the electronics & the bridge. I miss it sometimes.

The neck oddly feels funny to me on the bass side from the third fret down, hurts my hand, never experienced anything like that with any other bass. Post by: drbassman on February 23, 2009, 08:32:07 AM: I agree with Scott. The neck is an odd shape. Had I kept mine, I probably would have trimmed the neck down some. It's a nice sounding bass, not unlike a p-bass frankly.

Damn, that's sweet!

The NR I ALMOST got (someone snatched it up before I did), was a sunburst with a pearlescent pickguard. Man, it looked cool. Wish I'd gotten it.
