Hale Metal is alive and well ...
« on: June 29, 2010, 07:02:15 AM »
As if Nirvana never happened and we're all stuck in a Pat Benatar time warp, but I really like it. Bought their album only a week ago out of curiosity not knowing their songs or anything about them ...

And they can pull it off live too, that girl has some pipes:

I'm really too old for this kind of music, but immaturity is an enduring affliction.

There was a time when girl rock singers were a curiousity, never taken too seriously, till Heart & Pat Benatar. She definately can belt it out as good as the boys. I always saw Janis as more a blues singer.

Funny you mention girl rock singers & Nirvana- Been listening to Otep as of late.

Sounds like the umpteenth generic hitparade rock band with a chick singer to me

In The Netherlands we had a tv talent show where they put a band together from the contestants.
The result is a band called Stereo which bears quite a few similarities to that Halestorm band. She even looks the same.
Not a bad band, but way too contrived for my taste:

+1

As much as I want to like them because they've played my town at least six times (probably more) in the past two years, I just can't. It's just generic Pro-Tools sequenced "modern rock" format with a chick for a hook;  sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll still needs to rock. If you want jack-off music, Mr. Bungle's got you covered already:

Oh my gosh, you guys are tough, they are a young band barely out of their teens and this is their major label debut and they write their own songs (which are generic, which AOR album from the last 10 years wasn't?) - I didn't say that they had recorded Led Zep IV or Axis Bold as Love, but they aren't The Archies either! Hook-ladden AOR is nothing new nor is it especially deep, but by your standards Mötley Crüe's debut wouldn't have passed the test either.

And yes, they have a good-looking chick singer, but nothing in their vid or in their live performance has her really overplay that card, she's not Lorraine Lewis from Femme Fatale!

And with all due respect to Rob's talent of analysis, the similarities to Stereo are fleeting and superficial. One swallow does not make or undo a hard rock band, Stereo is a pop band with rocking rhythm guitars in the currently popular Green Day vein while Halestorm put what approaches pop hooklines over riff oriented hard rock. There is a clear difference, the Halestorm singer's vocal lines have more Janis Joplin than Avril Lavigne in them.

Correct! Never cared for Motley Crue.
Their debut album is one of the worst sounding/bad productions in rock history if you ask me.

About Hale's singing qualities; After the third long note in that live video intro she had already used up all her powder to impress me.
I got through half the song, then I gave up.

I didn't get that far. She may have the pipes, I just don't care for the vocal histrionics. Cut the crap and sing if you can.

Yeah, leave the histrionics to Glenn Danzig, who at least ocassionally finds a good use for them.
