EB-750 on CL
« on: August 15, 2019, 11:37:45 PM »
In Eau Claire, Wisconsin, local pickup only. I can make the 90 mile trip but I'm a few dollars short of $5K  :o

Nice but pricey. I also noticed a reference to Rob's book.

Which is a pretty cool tribute to the quality of Rob's work!

But, what the hell does this mean? "To cut the matter short, you need to have a lot of fantasy to hear a hollowbody bass in the sound of the instrument."

For decades, they never cropped up in sunburst, yet now you see them all the time in that fin. Go figure.

The description is also at least partly due to Rob's book. I doubt the seller would know as much about it otherwise, unless he's a member or a lurker here.

I took it to mean that it doesn't sound like a typical hollowbody.

All the time? They rarely come up at all.

I just looked on Reverb to see if there were any besides Scotty Allen's natural, which he's really not interested in selling unless someone meets his 8K asking price. Turns out this one is on Reverb too, listed 23 days ago at $5500 + $150 shipping.

12 watchers, that surprises me.

The huge sustain block kills pretty much all of the acoustic tone, it does retain the sluggish tone development of a hollow-body though. The Bart TCT active electronics are by today's standards expressionless. With flats and a California Blonde combo, I guess it is something you could play lounge jazz with.

The seller just googled the bass and found my website or instagram/facebook account.
The text in the add is copy-paste from the description that goes with the picture that I put online.

I would LOVE to put my hands on one of these for at least 10 minutes. One of the very few Gibson basses that I haven't seen IRL, let alone played.

However, at $5K or more being asked for working examples, I don't see my desire getting fulfilled any time soon. But one can always dream... ;D
