New semisolids by Höfner and Hagstrom
« on: May 03, 2010, 11:56:20 PM »
Maybe I already told you in a Höfner thread that they will reissue the Verythin bass in the quite affordable Contemporary Series. I found out Hagstrom is also reissueing a semisolid. The Viking Bass.

I tried that one... in an eight-string version! And that sounds huge! With a selector you can select six pick up configurations. Humbucker, singlecoil, ... Great bass!

I like this one because the tuners are all on the bass side!

Nice styling - and rail-type pickups.  Interesting!

I got rid of my Hagstrom 8 string a few years ago, but it was a really nice instrument. I had the opportunity to play a few of their older basses back in the 70s and I was always impressed with them. Their necks are strong as a crowbar and nice and slim . I always liked the sound and the prices were often suprisingly low. The only drawback on the old stuff was all the delicate little switches they had. Looks like the new stuff has done away that and gone a more traditional/durable route.

I've seen the newer Hagstrom guitars, not the basses. Just based on looking, not playing, the workmanship sure looks better than the Hofners.
