Very nice, Rob!  You're really refining the Brooks look.  Dig the strap button on the heel.

Outstanding, work, Rob!

I like the idea of the switch location. No volume and tone controls or am I missing something?

You're not missing anything Dave.
No volume, no tone. Just the slide switch to choose between single coil, humbucker series or humbucker parallel.

Very interesting. Is this built for a customer or one you're going to sell?

Yeah, I built this for a customer. It was his idea to have no pots on this bass.
He's the same guy who ordered a Brooks EB-RBL one year ago.
When he picked this one up yesterday he said he wants another one next year 😎

You need to sign him to a long term contract.  :)

Seriously, with beautiful work and a satisfied customer, your reputation will spread.

I'm guessing soapbar pickup (EMG 35 size).

I'm building this bass guitar on commission. The client wants exactly the same as the previous Brooks EB-RBL-Q.
So it will get a Seymour Duncan SRB-1B bass humbucker, with the ears cut off and a custom made pickup ring.

Except this bass will get a volume pot and a tone pot.

Okay, alright... maybe the volume...

I guessed soapbar because your pic shows one screw on each side, like most soapbars, while your previous one with the Seymour Duncan Ric pickup has a three-screw mount.

I'v heard the Duncan pickup in a Ric but I'm curious to know how it compares to other pickups you have used in your builds.

I guessed soapbar because your pic shows one screw on each side, like most soapbars, while your previous one with the Seymour Duncan Ric pickup has a three-screw mount.

The two screws in the pic are only for support while spraying the finish. This way I prevent the vulnerable surface of the fresh layers of lacquer from touching the table.

I'v heard the Duncan pickup in a Ric but I'm curious to know how it compares to other pickups you have used in your builds.

The only other humbucker that I've used in this model is the EY Chinabucker. And I have to admit that I prefer the sound of that one.
But my customer wants this one. The Seymour Duncan sounds great too. Less focussed on the mid low frequencies than the EY, but still a nice pickup.
Plus it is versatile because of the option to split the coils. I am going to equip this bass with a slide switch too: series, parallel, single.

I haven't heard a comparison between the EY and the Duncan but it's not surprising that a Ric type pickup wouldn't be as focused on low mids. I think they sound great, no matter what some Ric fans think. Regardless, the customer wants it, that makes your decision easy.

Today I completed the build of a new Brooks bass.
It is very similar to the previous EB-RBL-Q bass. Except it does have a volume pot and tone pot.
And this one does not have a zero fret. But a buffalo horn top nut.

The guy who I built it for picked it up one hour after I turned in the last screw.
I think he got a few speeding tickets on the way to my place. And a few more on the way back home  ;D

I didn't even have time to make a little video of this bass. My customer needed it for the next gig on wednesday, so he picked it up yesterday. Literally one hour after I had turned in the last screw.
But I think there will be some live footage of his band.

I do have a video of a previous bass that I built with similar specs (except it has a rosewood fretboard instead of the ebony. And it doesn't have the maple top).
But I am not really happy with the sound quality of the recording (and my own playing...) as it was also a rush job   :-[

These are really great tones. I wasn't familiar with that pickup, but it sure sounds good in this bass.
