Fast forward to 2:15 and hear John Paul Jones playing some pick-style funk on a Fender Bass V. Doesn't sound like his Jazz or not as raunchy as his Rotosound-stringed '52 Precision. A pic from the gig:


According to the sound here he might have used it in the studio on "The Crunge".

Somehow, when held horizontally (playing position) it is considerably less ugly than when photographed vertically (typical eBay/music store pic). It's like the Thacher effect.
