Those Sherwoods look like WALs to me. Is there a connection too?
We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...
From techno seeds we first planted ... evolved a mind of its own ...

I've done a bit of searching on this, Uwe, but can find nothing conclusive... the "Shergold Marathon" appears to be the name of the model in question and a discussion forum (on the same site) references the "similarity", even with WAL users saying how good the "Marathon" is... like a Wal, but without the complication of the gadgets, the "bells and whistles", with one person going as far as saying they prefer their Marathon...!

I can only conclude that there was parallel evolution... must say that the single pup (mahogany?) model does look rather interesting...

Several references to "Ned Callan" and "Peter Cook", but nothing new other than later Cody/Hombre's being Japanese imports...?

This was interesting, albeit a guitar...

Ths TRC is very similar to my PCC cover... possibly who made them for PC...?

If anyone wants to dip into the history of those instruments, this is their forum...
http://www.shergold.co.uk/forum/index.php
... and this is the Shergold (formerly Hayman Guitars) site...
http://www.shergold.co.uk/index.html

Sad thing is, they're all history; mostly forgotten history; like most of this country...

EDIT - lifted another bit as a seperate post re a WAL-alike...

Didn't sell... not surprised... emailed the guy and told him the facts of life ("Ned who...?"), so I'll see if he is sensible when he relists...

Maybe he'll come down on the price too.  It did not meet reserve.  If it becomes reasonable I'll buy it and you can pick it up and mess around with it for a while.

... and now a "Nobly Ned" has turned up... needs a refin...

Gotta admit that this was sitting at £20 on 2 bids and wasn't gonna post; you know, a vain hope of a cheapie, but now up to around £80; has no reserve...

I'll keep watching, but still no cash going on... oh well...

I like it a lot and as you know I'm a bit of an Anglophile. I did a bidding and I PM'd her to ask if they ship to Holland, which is can be done. I like it, but not for thát much. Maybe 100 pounds or something...

I remember seeing a Shaftesbury 4005-ish Ric copy.  Closest thing I've ever come across in that realm, but it had more of a 330-style body.

I believe Shaftesbury was  budget brand in the sixties. A brand of an English agent (Arbiter?), but made in Italy. Mostly Rickenbacker-copies. I've seen some guitars. I don't think it has much to do with this.

As far as I've found out, Chris, they were built in the UK (Don't know of Ricky's, remember Gibbie coppies, LP style, late 60's to mid 70's - "Dallas Arbiter" as in Hendrix' "fuzz-face", of which I have/had an original up in the loft somewhere, directly linked to... early models - by Shergold) and Japan (later models - by ?), from a design by Peter Cook, after items he made for JAE...

Hornisse... he has added UK postage now, but verify how he will package her before placing a bid, also if it's a bolt-on neck... if you do go for it that would make shipping over to you a lot easier... it won't help on pricing but my company looks after security for TNT and FEDEX, so I'm in their sites at least weekly... I can still collect... 250 mile round trip, but may be able to arrange to be in area so collecting in van at company expense...  ;) not that I'm keen to assist, you understand...  ;D

I have a variety of searches for these items now, so will keep looking, too...

I'll check and see if they will ship directly to you to avoid the trip.  I'll ask about the neck too and see if it is a bolt on one.
