I had no idea that there have been so many. It's not something I ever paid close attention to, but it just goes to show that the body shape is more desirable than some people would have you think.

Sheldon Dingwall has toyed with the idea of doing a fanfret T-Bird.  I would raid my savings for that.

Really nice family portrait.
You are the perfect one to ask my question.  How does the Bach compare to the real deal  (although only one pup)  and the Lull which has same pup setup.    soundwise only as i am planning on changing out the bach pups?  All i have is a 76 which is different pup design.
Title: Re: Thunderbird Ho
Post by: Funkster on June 08, 2010, 07:46:03 AM
The comparison in common is the feel they both feel pretty similar but the tone from the 67 is nice and meaty kinda in your face grunt and girth, The Bach is a little more subdued and mellower but I'm sure it's the Artec's or the electronics. Don't get me wrong the Bach sounds good and sits well in the mix it's just missing something the 67 has.
The Lull is just plain ole nasty, I'm calling it my Marshall killer. I can play any genre of music with that bass and it finds it's place. The Bart pre (I was really never a fan) really shines on this bass and takes it to a whole new level of tone shaping.. I can make it sound like the Orville, The 67 or Bach, Then I can twist a few knobs and get a great Jazz bass burp tone or monster P tone, Very Versatile bass. I love it.

Nice birds!

Was your '67 refinished?  Its beautiful.  I really like that color (kerry green?).

I like the color of your Lull too - kind of an ice blue, right?  Someone here had a 76 that had been refined in a color like that, IIRC.

I'd love to try the Lull pickups someday.

i didn't realize Mike was putting preamps in the tbirds.  i thought they were all passive.  is that an option you requested or standard in the bass.  Mark isn'y yours passive???

Ah ok - I was kinda wondering if it was the same one.  Krishna is a really nice guy.  I bought an EB-0 from him off Ebay once with the original intent of refinishing it.  Years before, I had seen an EB-3 in sparkling burgundy, loved it, and I was thinking of trying to refin the EB-0 like that.  I saw on his blog that he had done up a melody maker in SB, and he not only shared his approach to replicating that color but also sent me some of the materials along with the bass.  Really cool.

I got distracted by the BaCH, but might still try that finish one of these days.  Looks challenging to apply, to say the least.

Krishna is a great guy and does fantastic work, I had a 68 Tele bass and he restored it from a complete basket case in Candy apple red, He did my 64 P in Fiesta and my 72 P in LPB. I'm going to have him do the Bach in Cardinal Red..

The original IS much larger. I tried to repost it a few times but it seems like this site might have a size limit and automatically reduces it? It that possible? Never had that happen before. I even went inot the HTML and manually changed the size it defaulted to but it automatically made it smaller each time.

If there is a simple way to get it larger let me know...or else I'll have to shop it up into a few sections and do each separately...or give everyone a magnifying glass :)

If you click on the image with the control key held down you get the drop down menu asking to view the image in a new frame.
Click it and it opens medium size.
If you hover over it with the cursor you get a magnifying glass symbol. Click the image once and it'll show full size.

Everyone can laugh all they want but the US is doing rather well in the World Cup! Well, we are at least hanging in there!

I've never noticed so much interest in soccer until just now. Maybe it's because of facebook? Well, Chicago just won the Stanley Cup for the first time in my lifetime. That's all I care about!  :P

PS - I'm pretty much a total non-sports guy. Until one of our teams gets into the playoffs/finals. Fair weather friend I guess.

Yeah, I'm not much of a sports fan much either...but since I also live in New Orleans part of the time, I was rooting for the Saints all year and stunned that they made it to the Super Bowl after 43 years.

So, I made sure to be down there in New Orleans to watch that game from a local bar. It sure paid off!! TOTAL INSANITY!! I walked doen into the French Quarter after the game and all the way there it was wall-to-wall people joyously screaming out of their minds. You could not fit a sheet of paper between people on Bourbon Street, it was so crowded.

Super Bowl also happened to fall dead in the middle of Mardi Gras as well this year, so really out it over the top. Plus, they had the 4-year mayor election the day before Super Bowl and elected the first white mayor in about 40 years...probably because most of them since then ended up in jail :)  That's not saying much in New Orleans though because the last white mayor's first name was "Moon" and he is the father of the guy who just got elected (a the new mayor's sister is the State Senator!) It's the only city in the USA more corrupt that Chicago, where our President and most of his pals are from. Democracy is great :)

But back to sports....the Tuesday after Super Bowl the city had a "win or lose" parade planned. All of the big Mardi Gras "crews" that normally compete with each other to have the best parades and floats...each put up thei best float and loaned them for The Saints parade (first time that ever happened.)  So, you have this enormous parade with all The Saints players, management, staff, etc. riding on the best floats and throwing out beads, footballs and about anything else they could!!  They even had the big trophy on the float with Drew Brees hoisting it in the air as he threw beads with his other one.

They expected like 300,000 people and ONE MILLION showed up for the day!! No violence, just great fun. It could not have been more perfect...people from all walks of life drinking , laughing and partying together in the streets New Orleans style with music everywhere.

Oh...BTW...at the bar where I watched the game, it was VERY emotional. Just as the game started and they sang the National Anthem on TV, the entire crowd in teh bas slowly began to sing until everyone was singing it loud together. I felt like I was in a movie scene becaue my part of the 'hood is a real mixed crowd...white, black, Cajun, straight, gay, rich and pretty damn broke...but the whole place errupted in song. Truly a once in a lifetime thing. I attribute it to how hard everyone in New Orleans had gotten beaten down by Hurricane Katrina and has tried to come back since. The Saints making it to Super Bowl was sort of our vindication in some strange way. NONE of us really expected them to win it...just getting there was more than we could have imagined.

Having had to evacuate the night before Katrina hit and then go back to rebuild my house there and live through all that devastation...the whole Saints thing this year was great.

New Orleans and the Gulf was just starting to get back to being liveable after 5 years....and now we get drowned in friggin' BP oil!!!! What a crime. It smells like a huge gas station in town and my friends are starting to say they itch after bathing or taking showers, so something is up that  no one is talking about.
