 I thought you had one Herr Moderator, they are set neck. I would think they sound quite similar to late '60s Bird. Wonderful basses  ;)

No, I have rank and file Epi TBs (3: Snowwhite, Nikki Sixx Blackbird & Silverburst), one Elitist and one Orville TB, the latter two being set neck of course, but no real Jap ho.  :-*

 I think you need to chase one down, certainly a nice addition to ze collection, and definately different than the other Ho's  ;)

My daughter recieved one from my sister in Japan for a graduation gift. It is a beautiful piece, but damn that thing is super heavy!!

Might be more airey, especially if worn in the style of a "traditional" kilt wearer...  ;D (just get it customed in light fabric, dear... ;))
