Tom Petty's "Don't Come Around Here No More" bass intro
« on: October 29, 2013, 07:25:00 AM »
We're working on this song and while the bass part for the song on the whole is dead-simple, the intro is stumping me. It's a short little fretless part, just a few seconds at the beginning of the song. I found some tab on T*lkbass but it seems wrong, the part sounds like it's played above the 12th fret, which is not what's shown in the tab.
Anyone got any ideas?

Start with your ring finger on the 15th fret of the D string, play that note then hit the note on the 15th fret of the G string and slide up to the 17th fret of the G. Hit the 17th fret of the G again and slide up to the 20th fret of the G string.
Now form a double stop with index finger on 18th fret of the D string and ring finger still on 20th fret of the G string.
In this position hit the 18th fret note first followed by the 20th fret note and then hit the 18th fret note again.
After hitting the 18th fret note the second time, while still holding the double stop, slide down to 15th fret on the D and 17th fret on the G.
Hit the 15th fret of the D and then the 17th fret of the G and that's it.

Some further refinements to the line as discussed on that other forum...
