Vitesse, one of the Netherland's cult bands.

Doe Maar, a reggae/ ska combo who are without a doubt one of the most popular Dutch singing acts ever.
And last but not least, true Dutch legends, The Golden Earring.

All of these bands had a reputation for being a killer live act. so it wasn't really a surprise that the show ended with all three bands jamming together. That Jam consisted of three songs and here they are.

Is that my hero Freddie Cavalli on the Vitesse pic? I know he played with Herman van Boeyen for a while.

If I'm not mistaken it's Rudy Engelbert in the photo, Engelbert also played on "Rosalyn"

Englebert is an underrated bass player and singer. When he played with Herman Brood he always song some of hos own songs like 'Sucker'. Great song, great voice, great guy! I know Rudy a bit, but the guy on the right on the Vitesse pic is definately Cavalli.

Od course Herman van Boeyen is/was terrible to work with and I think he had more bandmembers that Brood.
The first Vitesse album with Herman van Boeyen, Herman Brood, (now famous producer and father of female singer Dennis) Rob van Donselaar and a fourth guy is very, very good!

i never knew that Golden earing were Dutch.? i guess you learn something everyday.the only Dutch bands i know are old punk/hardcore bands like Larm,BGK & Seein' Red

Not to mention that they also toured with the Who, in fact when Keith Moon died the very first person they contacted as a replacement was Earring Drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk. Who kindly declined their offer because he didn't feel like moving to London.

When the earring and the Who toured together Keith Moon experienced first hand that one stage trick that Zuiderwijk performed was something he couldn't equal. Because Zuiderwijk was a trained athlete and had his two bass drums reinforced with a cross bar so he could stand firm on top of it and then after the last song, he'd jump right over his kit. When Moon tried that, he fell on his butt in a not very rock N Roll way.

I always think Radar Love of Golden Earring is very similar to The Quiet One of The Who. A song by JAE. In dunno who was first.
Another Dutch band big in the US underground scene are of course The Outsiders.

First Dutch band that comes to my mind is Focus. 2nd would be Golden Earring. 3rd would be Shocking Blue. All great bands IMHO.

When they were touring with the Who, at some point Roger Daltrey told Golden Earring that they were too good to be an opening act.

I don't like the earring. They are all good musicans I'm for sure, but something about them makes me wanna puke. I think it's mainly because of mr. Hay's attitude. Really everytime I see that guy on the telly I don't know how fast I've te put on another channel. Best record I know from them is the live one with Elco Gelling. Just put that record on and only listen to (I believe it's the) left side. At that time one of the best if not the best guitarist in the netherlands. In holland whenever there is a docu of dutch music you always first hear about the grand earring. There were other bands that were more sucsesfull over the pond as them and they weren't the first the band so why all the fuzz. The main crowd in holland always seems to forget bands like focus, the outsiders, shocking blue, tee set (I think the only dutch band wich had they're single banned in the US).
@SKATE RAT - Seein' red was a great dutch band! Seen them live on several occasions. Most memberable a gig with seeing red, breznev, us bombs. Great line up, great show.

"Twilight Zone" and the great video that went with it had a lot to do with Golden Earring's success. When you do something like that in the 80s when millions of people are watching MTV, then you're going to get recognition. I have also heard that they were arrogant, but this could apply to many people. I'm not too far from Nashville, and I could tell stories which I know are true of arrogant country music stars, too. Anyway, I do enjoy Golden Earring's music.

First or not, Radar Love almost always gets the crowd moving.
Glad to see The Outsiders mentioned (RIP Wally Tax). You still have to explain to some people that they weren't the same as the US Outsiders who did Time Won't Let Me.
It's just my age and pop preferences, but after The Outsiders, I think of Tee Set, Shocking Blue, George Baker Selection, Mouth & McNeal along with Focus and Golden Earring.

as far as i know Seein' Red still are a great 3 piece band. Larm is the same band but with a singer and started in the 80's.i belive they are all school teachers now.but they still play and put out records

they're still going strong. Since I don't play punkrock myself I kinda lost track on the scene.
