The Outpost Cafe / Re: Burton Cummings makes a stunning move
« on: April 14, 2024, 02:30:37 PM »
Cummings did an interview with Bob Lefsetz a while back that started with about 30 minutes of Mike Lindell-esque diatribes against the current band.  Bob would steer the conversation away and Cummings would go right back.  I don't think that Burton has anything else in his life but these memories.

Gibson Basses / Re: Fun from Japan: 66 NR II, $11K

There's an unbroken 67 II that just arrived at Willie's Guitars.  It came out of the North Dakota prairie.  The original owner used to play it through a 361, which was not sold to Willie's but is in equally immaculate condition.

Nice job cleaning it up!  The 90's reissues are such great instruments.

In one of my Rivoli IIs I put in a modern SG bass neck pickup.  Keep an eye out for a loose one.
The other one got a 60's pickup, and the "baritone switch" works much better with it than the stock pickup.

I have a set of 4 string and 5 string and electronics that are sitting in a box.

Brad, your bass looks and sounds good, but it's not a hollowbody!  :)

I really like her voice.

You got me there, Dave! Here's another with speaker melting hollowbody mud :)

She definitely has a gifted set of pipes, and writes some great songs as well.

This is from a little over a year ago. This song will be released as a single in the next month, and the covid delayed album should be out in November.

A Telecaster bass with a Thunderbucker 66S is the best of both worlds.

I'm a big fan of the Seymour Duncan STK-SCPB pickup. It sounds pretty much like a single coil without the hum. Some of the other split coils I've tried just sound too much like a post 57 Precision.

I believe that Phil Lesh had a column for each string in the "Wall of Sound" period.

That bass is a true work of art.

Gibson Basses / Re: Gibson Les Paul Bass Comparison

Nice comparison. The 2000 has the most appealing sound to me.  The preamp pedal is very nice as well. I did a few gigs with one into a Wayne Audio powered cab and then the gigs stopped.

I checked it out a couple of weeks ago when in Chicago for a gig. It didn't appear to me to be the original finish, and it didn't play that well either. They also had a hacked up fretless EB2 that played pretty well.

Gibson Basses / Modified or original LP Recording Bass?
« on: July 07, 2018, 08:54:47 AM »
I saw this on the local CL. The headstock is not black, and there's no crown inlay. Also has the 60's tuners instead of Schaller M4s.  Is this a modified instrument or an early variant?

The Stagg RB2 ABS hard case fits my Greco Thunderbirds perfectly - it's very light but sturdy - as good as any of the SKB ABS cases.

I use this same case for my Greco, though it came from Warwick. I put a double folded towel in the neck area to bring the neck up a little bit.

Yeah, I was always jealous of that one, as my dream was for an EB2 style bass with that pup.

My 67 Rivoli carcass will sport a Lo-Z when it's all assembled. Right now I'm fitting a 65 EB0 neck to it.
