Gibson Basses / Thunderbird Friendly Stands
« on: June 19, 2011, 05:42:28 PM »
Alright guys, I need your infinite wisdom: What seems to be the best guitar stands for Thunderbird shaped basses?

I already own a Hercules 3-way stand, but I'm looking for something more compact for my bedroom.

Ideas?

Gibson Basses / 70's T-bird Chrome Pup Screws
« on: January 29, 2011, 02:00:37 PM »
Hey guys, I know, I've been away for a long time. (no band, no cash, no bass forums) But I recently picked my Bachbird back up and am extremely annoyed with the screws my luthier used on my stuffed 70's chrome pickup covers. Where can I get good screws that were meant for those 70's pickups?

Thanks in advance.

Gibson Basses / 70's Greco Thunderbird
« on: March 10, 2010, 02:53:22 PM »
Sounds like I might have a local lead on a 70's Greco Thunderbird! Good price, guy says it has had no breaks, two pickups, and a two point bridge. He does mention that the bridge is like nothing he's seen on a Greco before so he says it may be a bridge change. Getting pictures emailed to me tonight. I'll keep you all posted.

Gibson Basses / White Hobbit on the 'bay
« on: February 07, 2010, 06:57:39 AM »
Hey guys, I'd like to ask a favor of our brethren here.

This auction is based out of my backyard, about an hour away:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Gibson-Les-Paul-Triumph-Bass_W0QQitemZ260549383618QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item3ca9f415c2

I'm trying to deal with them locally, but the owner is wanting 2500.00 for it or he wants to gamble on eBay. If no one is extremely passionate about owning a White Hobbit, I would like to ask that no one here try for it. I know the white ones were a lot more rare, but lately I haven't seen the Hobbits go for big amounts, seems they've slown down a bit.

Thanks guys.

Gibson Basses / Custom Thunderbird "S" Strap
« on: January 28, 2010, 02:36:18 PM »
DISCLAIMER:I'm doing this to help out Glenn Cronkhite after he and "The Dude" had differences of opinion. I'm not gaining anything from this venture, but I thought that maybe you guys would be interested in these straps.

Now that that is out of the way:

I'm trying to help Glenn Cronkhite sell the rest of his "S" Shaped straps to us Gibson-ites who might want them.

I had originally bought one of his straps from "The Dude" after he had Glenn custom make them for VBTC. I love it to death and I get ZERO neck dive from any of my birds.

Here's a pic of the strap, I promise to put up more:

After I gained another bird to my flock, I decided I wanted another one and was able to do some detective work finding Glenn as the original creator. I emailed him to see if he still had the pattern, and came to find out he's got about 10 of these made. So I thought I'd share this with our group of guys (and gals) here.

I believe Glenn quoted me $34.00 plus actual shipping charges.

If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll send you Glenn's email address.

EDIT:
Glenn said he's busy right now, but will get back to me with all of the details of the strap (material, length, etc). He said it would not be possible to add any padding to the strap because of the shape.

Gibson Basses / Blackbird Singing in the Dead of Night
« on: December 05, 2009, 08:22:39 AM »
Well, looks like I've gone from no Gibsons to 2 Thunderbirds within a year thanks to George.

I just inherited George's Blackbird, and I have to say that I'm excited. I needed a backup bird for my half-chromed Natural 'bird.

Don't worry Uwe, this Thunderbird won't feel the pain of the chrome assimilation. I'm going to keep this one bone stock, I won't even put a Hipshot bridge on it.

Picks can be found here:

I'll put up a family portrait soon.

It's everyone's favorite thread right behind the "Show us your..." threads!

So what's everyone using on their Thunderbirds these days?

They sure did make a lot of these "custom" Thunderbirds huh?

I contacted the seller, let's see what he says.  ;D

Amazing how these customs go for $45 more than a stock one:

Gibson Basses / Ultralite Clovers on a T-Bird
« on: March 08, 2009, 12:02:14 AM »
I remember someone around here or the Pit once put Hipshot Ultralite Clovers on their T-bird to replace the GB-7 Y keys. Does anyone remember how that worked out? I thought I remembered them saying that the tuners had to be angled slightly because the clovers were a little wider than the Y's.
