I don't know if this has crossed the pond, but this is a troubling story for the Europeans...

Britain has taken a "hands-off... not our problem" attitude, as we are not commited to the EURO currency...

I've been keeping up with the story, but not in detail.  It's been strange watching the Euro fall against the dollar just within the last 24 hours.  From a personal perspective, that would make it cheaper to travel to Europe.  However, I just find the whole thing troubling.  I really hope they find a way to stabilize the situation soon.

Yes, this is a demonstration that linking ones' currencies is not always a great benefit.  If the euro struggles, many countries struggle.  I suspect there will be fallout in the EU from this event.

Well I don't know much economics stuff, but the main problem is the very bad administration of resources from all of the gonverments (socialistics or not). Also there are alot of people that get very well paid for doing practically nothing (civil servants, politicians, the usual stuff). Combine those with the recent economic crisis and you've got a nice mix that explains alot.

Last gonverment used to send FALSE info to the EU for our economic situation, aren't they smart or what?

I always thought that we greeks need some nice discipline, german-style.

In all seriousness, I hope this gets sorted out as soon as possible. The last thing anyone needs is the European economy to really tank.

What exiledarchangel said, although the German discipline didn't work so well last time.  Better than the Italian discipline, but their food was better.  Things have been shaky since the monkey bite of 1920.

It has been getting press in the places that pay attention to things that could expose the greater fiscal irresponsibility of the US of late (what rahock didn't say!), and so it is a crap shoot now that has people holding their breath.  Some look on the proposed bail-outs as similar to providing a disproportionate amount of police and civic services to bad neighborhoods - better to keep it contained and out of the better neighborhoods no matter what the cost.  Others look at it as a house of cards, and it is better to let it collapse and quit throwing money at such an unstable foundation.  Then deal with the mess by cleaning up the deficit spending government by starting over.

We'll see!
