Epi Silverburst T-Bird?
« on: May 13, 2008, 10:13:17 AM »
I saw a sliverburst Epi Bird mentioned at TB this morning and did some checking. I didn't find anything on Epi's site, but musicians friend has them listed for $300. It says that the silverburst has a mahogany body. Anyone know anthing about these?

Ooh nice. I like the Silver Burst Finish. It seems like the Ltd runs use Mahogany bodies (thinking of the whites).

How is the neck pocket on the Epi's?  Could a F****r neck, or a Epi Blackbird neck bolt on there easily?

Is that true? Does the white one has another body than the normal sunburst one?

Any news on the Silverbird?

You can never quite be sure what lurks underneath an Epi fin and wood species terms are sometimes wanton, but I believe that all reg Epi TBirds (regardless of whether normal line or in limited edition fins) have an alder body and that only the Goth TBird and the Nikki Sixx offer a wood that Epi calls mahogany though it is probably just something related they can get away with calling it that. The one thing they all share is a maple neck (which is a good thing given that so many Epis are sold to young guys who can't afford a protective case with them!). And most of them have the broader, more Fenderish string spacing; the Nikki Sixx is the exception to the rule here.

I saw the white Ltd Edition description and it said Mahogany at the time but I guess it was a faulty description I saw. Sorry about that.

Probably end up being the case with the silverburst too. They have it listed as maho but will make it with alder. They used to list the Goth models as being 1 1/2" @ the nut but I've never played one that wasn't just like the sunburst's neck. As wide as the nut is on the Epi Birds, I still prefer it to a fat Pbass neck. The Epi neck just doesn't seem as fat as the P's IMO.

Let's put it this way: I don't think Epi calls a production halt on reg TBirds if they run out on alder, but still have maho lying around!

If I play my Epi "Snowwhite" TB and the Nikki Sixx model side by side, the latter one does sound deeper, blurrier and warmer with less attack, no matter what the pup combination. Mind you, the pups on the Blackbird are closer to the neck and of course they're "DeepSixx" ones ...

Not carrying a protective case with you can lead to unplanned consequences.  ;)
