Gibson Basses / Re: Oops... I did it again. 2016 ES Les Paul Bass
« on: January 06, 2018, 11:24:51 AM »
That's typical Les Paul wiring for you. My 2005 LP Standard bass also had that type of wiring. Instead of attaching the pickup leads from the selector switch to the mid lugs of the volume controls they attach´them to one of the outer and the mid lugs go to the jack. What happens is when you run both pickups both volume controls in reality do the same thing. They run the mixed signal to ground so both volume controls act like master volume controls.

I did'nt particularly like this so I reversed the wires on both volume controls so they act like any regular Jazz Bass ie they always only control the volume of the pickup that is connected to it.

Yes, Fender -like most bigname manufacturers- do offer a lot of t-shirts, coffee mugs etc. My point was more leaning towards the fact that Fender seems to have lifestyle products more off focus in the corporate room than Gibson have. In a "Build good instruments first and the gadgets will sell themselves" -sort of way, whereas Gibson keeps on putting out new guitar models with features which 95% of the customers are'nt interested in.

I remember a couple of years ago when Gibson seeked out for six new product developers and this is what was mentioned in the qualification part: " Minimum of 5 years of successful product management experience, preferably aligned to retail luxury/lifestyle products". Not anyhere was there a word about anything related  to development of musical instruments, only "products".

At least Larry mentions iconic basses.

Furthermore (unlike Gibson), there's no mention of luxury- nor lifestyle products. On the contrary they actually support the idea of a leadership that actually plays music:

They also have yet another Goldtop in used condition for 1245$. Maybe a customer return of one of the earlier floor models?

Gibson wrote in the complaint: "The misuse of the Gibson trademarks by Funko was intended to cause, has caused, and is likely to continue to cause, consumer confusion, mistake or deception including the misleading of consumers into mistakenly believing that the defendant's unauthorized products are made directly by Gibson pursuant to Gibson's strict quality control standards or Gibson has authorized or licensed the use by Funko of the Gibson trademarks for those products."

That quote is flat out hilarious. They are turning it into a plot against Gibson. Like Dave wrote ironically, nobody will ever think Gibson had anything to do with those figures. Not even Gibson has that bad quality control that they'd put only four strings on Slash's signature Les Paul.

Those headstocks are really begging to be broken. Even worse than the Ibanez Black Eagle's.

Looks like his new business isn't quite ready yet. I see a lot "coming soon".

Yup. Pickup sales and service seems to be up and running though.

It has SGD pickups. That's David Schwab's company, apparently no longer in business.

Seems like he is back with new company name but same website adress: http://www.sgd-lutherie.com/index.html

Bass Amps & Effects / Re: Tube Amp Doctor Plexi 150W Kit.

Congratulations on that decision. And I'm sure the Celestion speakers will be a good choice as well. They've survived in this business a long time and together with a few other manufacturers are considered industry standard.  :toast:

Hello and welcome. My favorite amp of those three is hands down the Orange though they're all great amps and quite similar. It has the worst eq section of them all, but no matter what I plug in it sounds great and I pretty much leave the tone controls at the same setting. It really lets the instrument speak with its own voice and does'nt feel like there's a carpet lying over that you can't get rid of.

Cabinet choice? Well it's hard to say because it is all down to personal taste. I use an Orange OBC410 and one BPE115. If you're into old school tube amps you probably want to stay away from the modern more (considered) high tech cabs though. I see you linked to a speaker so I'm not sure if that's the question? If so, I'd say that speaker choice should be made with the cabinet design in mind as well.
