Uhhmm, yeah the yanks have something they call Canadian bacon right? Otherwise maybe a domestic affair, Traynor-esque perhaps?

Let me guess. Your take on this?

No wait a minute. Land of bacon is south of your border.

(Seriously I'm very curious.)

Haha, I'll translate for you:

"Now you have the chance to buy what some call the worlds best bass ever, Gibson Thunderbird '64!

Most of the times a regular mortal being would'nt afford to buy this kind of classic piece but considering previous owners
earlier period modifications this one can be yours at a bit more modest price.

Modifications:
-Body routed for added neck pickup.
-Active electronics.
-Alembic pickups (probably 80's) instead of the originals.

The bass has a repairment where the headstock meats the neck just like most old Thunderbirds.

Sold as is.

Price: 15000:- or highest offer.
Shipping possible.

I'll stick with Scott's opinion, since he's played basses with both the new Epis and the Chinabuckers and I've played neither.

My understanding is that Epi doesn't make anything for anyone else, either for market testing or for any other reason.

I would not expect them to do so either, but it just seems like an odd business decision to me if they did bother to do the whole reverse engineering, make up all the tools and start manufacturing bass pickups for two bass models, when they had those readily available at low cost. OTOH one possibility is that they buy the parts, like the cover/bobbins outdoors and wind/assembles the pickups in their own facility. We don't know if EY make their own covers right?

I believe his story and Paul and Gene's story of what happened during his stint in Kiss is of the kind that you'd have to slice the coin to find the truth.

But the problem the way I see it is when they gradually increase their doses, they are more prone to make bad judgements. Along with availability and big quantities you're more likely to increase the dose, especially when you're in pain. So what if the supply is regulated and limited so you get only what you need within a specific time period? You would know that if you double the dose one day you're left out the next.

Another problem is when dealing with pain and painkillers. Painkillers are often the difference between staying at home taking care of yourself and going to work and make a living despite the pain. Those people prescribing painkillers need to at least bring out their good judgements sometimes. In Tom Petty's case it is obvious to me (though I'm certainly no Medical Doctor) that a broken hip needs treatment and rest as priority, not eating drugs and doing stage shows.

 Typical music dealer pricing for collectors. Seems to somewhat follow the Les Paul Standard pricing. This actually sold, but I don't know how it works? I guess the listing does'nt reveal a taken lower offer?

That's kind of the sad part of it. One exposed lie and you're (rightly so) questioned about all other things you've claimed even if they are true. I suppose some people get into believeing that the more forum hip gear and cool experiences you have, the more valuable you become. Another sad part is that maybe that's true on some forums but not this very forum here, which is what I like the most about it.  :toast:

That's perfect! It even goes to eleven. I'd leave the guard off since I find it more beatiful without. Too bad really because I also like the 'tip of the hat'-logo.

Gibson Basses / Re: anyone in need of a Moog board for RD Artist?
« on: January 16, 2018, 11:21:15 AM »
I'm also with you in that respect. The cut/boost eq just do what any of those 2 band preamps do. The "normal" setting is the meat and potato-setting that I use 95% of the time I play the RD. The compression/expansion and brightmodes are more for freaking out IMO. Gives you the feeling you have that secret little weapon engaged with the flick of a switch.

And of course the development over the past 40 years has provided us with smaller electronic devices. Just look at the smartphones. A megaload of functions in a tiny package. The RD with its huge Moog-board is a cool and for its time pioneering artefact (but nobody else caught on though  ;D ) kind of like any old odd car design.
